Also known as the battle of Pittsburg.

Doofus!

It was fought in Tennessee, and is also known as the Battle of PITTSBURG LANDING. The battle that was fought in Pennsylvania was Gettysburg. The big battle in Maryland was Antietam, known in the South as Sharpsburg.

Just for the record, both Jon's family and my family were in the Eleventh North Carolina Inf. Reg.

Also for the record, around here that war is known as The War For Southern Independence.

Jonathan is like a walking encyclopedia about this, you should ask him.

Glad you and the Jeffster are back together. Is your skin growing back yet after Jon's letter? ROFLMAO. When I saw him in first period he asked me "Think they got the message?"

This is where the Battle of Thighpick Mountain was fought. Also known as the Assault on Twinkie Ridge.

The Confederate forces, the 69th. Hawaiian, were under the command of Col. Peter Gozinya, a Polish expatriot. The regiment was known for the flamboyance of it's uniforms and especially for the grass skirts the men wore. Alas, the regiment had an all too brief history, since many of the men perished from cold and over exposure from sitting too far away from the campfires. They learned early in the War that the grass skirts were all too flammable.

The Union troops of the 99th. Massachussetts, also know as "The Spooners" because of their close sleeping habits, or "The Provincetown Blades," were commanded by Lt. Col. G.I. Luvtafuyck, a Dutch officer in the Union Army about whom very little is known.

The battle opened on this date in 1862, and the 69th. Hawaiian defended Twinkie Ridge with great tenacity, equaled by the ferocious assault of the Northern lads. Hardtack, bacon bits, and eclairs were hurled helter-skelter. The battle was fought to a draw in the early hours of the evening, and ended when one of the Massachussetts boys jumped up on a huge boulder and screamed "Enough of this shit! I've got a hangnail and I'm goin' home!"

So after a whole day of exchanging hardtack and bacon bits and eclairs all the boys thought they should have something a little more healthy for their supper, so they all went to Uncle Pic-Yo-Ass's Cafe and Yoghurt Bar and had salads, with dressing on the side of course.

Then later, the troops mingled a little, and then mingled a little more, and even though the Massachussetts boys never did capture Twinkie Ridge, they had their twinks in the end after all.

That is just way to funny. ROTFLMAO My family on my moms side were members of the 2nd Tennessee Inf., better known as Butternuts. This is because the material used to make their uniforms was a butternut color due to the dieing process. they fought in the Battle of Nashville and defended an area called Sulfer Dale.

Had to run home. Jeff got me sidetracked this morning and I forgot to take my shot stuff to school for after lunch.

The battle of shiloh was faught in Cannon county Tennessee not far from Memphis. It was the second bloodiest battle of the Civil War (War of Northern Agression). There is the Shiloh National battlefield park. In this park is a pond all weather spring fed. From this pond flows two streams. The pond and the streams ran red with blood for 4 days. All those boys that died never to go home. the win was given to the south, but I dont think either side felt like winners but all felt like loosers.

Our English civil war was in the eighteenth century. Here the city and the county were on different sides and they are still fighting it to this day.

Hi Nigel. Um, not to nit-pick but if you live in the UK I think your Civil War was in the Seventeenth century, not the Eighteenth. Started with them "axing" King Charles right? Then the Roundheads and the Cavaliers? I only learned a little bit about it because it was included in our American History class last year. It was about Parliament vs. the monarchy or something.

My family started off in France and migrated to Scotland with one of the queens who married one of the kings of Scotland and then in 1715 they had a falling out or something and we found it advantageous to leave the country. We did pretty well in the colonies so I really can't complain!

So the Massachussetts boys had their twinks in the end, huh?

Which end?

Eldon, this was one of the funniest things you've ever written, hands down. I'm sitting here looking at you out of the corner of my eye, looking at me out of the corner of your eye, and I wondering if she has a clue what we're doing? Teachers can be so dense sometimes.

Thighpick? Is that another name for what I think it is?

See, this is why people from my part of the country don't like people from your part of the country.

It was the Confederates who fired on Fort Sumter, but it was the War of NORTHERN Aggression. Right.

If people from around my area don't know our Civil War history, it's because we won. And, I suppose, since we weren't in a battleground state, we don't need to know it. We do know our Revolutionary War history, though. Freedom Trail and all that.

Well, I'm a 3rd generation Irish, but during that period back here in the west I believe Nevada was aligned with the North (admitted into the Union on October 31st, 1864) But the only support they gave the North was in the form of silver which was mistaken for lead and hence they were using silver bullets.

Cause it doesn't snow south of Washington.

You ever experienced snow? I don't mean the "oh shit, there's an inch on the ground, everybody panic" snow that we all assume takes place south of the Mason-Dixon line, I mean real fucking snow.

I'm talking 32 degrees exactly so that half of what's falling is snow and half is rain. And then it gets colder, and all eight to twelve inches of it hardens like a rock, and you break the metal edge of your heavy-duty snow shovel trying to clear a path so you can drive to work. Cause we don't cancel shit around here for snow. There's got to be 15 inches or so before we even think about it.

People up here move south when they get old and decrepit because they don't want to deal with the snow, and they don't want to deal with the cold.

And again, I'm not talking "put on a sweater, it's 50 outside" cold, I'm talking goddamn cold, like -40 with the windchill, and needing to walk through what's effectively a wind tunnel to get to class. Skyscrapers make the wind on the ground faster, just ask anyone from Chicago.

We like the North. We love it, in fact. But the weather here sucks. And that's why old people leave.

We get snow here in eastern North Carolina but like you said it's mostly just a mix of mushy snow and rain. Sometimes we get sleet and it freezes on the roads but then melts right off. I guess everyplace has good things and bad things about it. We got bad skeeters, and chiggers, and we get hurricanes and bad storms off the Atlantic. We also got rednecks and no-account white trash bigots.

I email and IM with guys up in Boston and Eau Claire, Wisconsin they're wrestlers too and they tell me all kinds of things about the winters up there. No wonder y'all got such white skin the sun must never shine up there, huh? The snow is terrible up there I give you that. I don't know how y'all stand it because it must me like living in a Ice Age.
