Perhaps you can't get leekie outside Scotland, so they had to do without?

Cock-a-leekie is really nice, actually. Chicken, leek and potato soup. Mmm.

No, really we have leeks here. I know you have to wash them endlessly because when they grow they pickup dirt in the leaves. Our Cock-a-leekie soup is probably thicker than the real thing over in the UK. More like potato soup with leeks and chicken. But my Mom also makes cream of leek soup without potatos.

I think the package is a West Indies speciality. Made with roosters instead of hens or maybe capons.

Do you guys have gumbo over in England? It's soup or stew made with a rich roux and okra. It's very think.

I don't think I've ever had "proper" Scottish cock-a-leekie soup, but the versions I have had have been more like a mixture between broth and stew -- not uniformly thick, but chunky.

I've never had -- or heard of -- gumbo. For that matter, I didn't know what roux and okra were, either. I imagine you would have to go to a speciality store or restaurant.

Actually, it is Cajun cuisine.

which is a culture based on a fusion of Accadian and Creole.

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...
