Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I've been plagued with the intrusive attitudes of ATT-Yahoo ever since the two companies merged one or two years ago.

Last month I had a melt down with ATT because they went and changed my service plan without telling me, causing me a great deal of anguish.

Anyhoo..... I dumped them, even though change frightens me when it comes to technology. I was worried about my business contacts if my email changed, worried about my email address book, contact lists, and bookmarks.

Well, today the unspeakable happened...... I went to check my email and was greated with a sign up page for the free ATT Yahoo email thingy....

I did my duty and registered a new email address....

Then I went to work.... After 11 hours of digging through level after level of ATT Yahoo's website, then into places better left alone unless with a native guide..... I managed to drag my old email address back to life and also exhumed my bookmark list....

Now it's the bookmark list that was most important to me because it had several files with links I need for citation regarding ssome 7 research papers i'm working on for three classes.....

I tried my best to keep calm when I saw that my lifeline to 6 ewwks of research had fizzled into nothingness.

I was sooooooooooooooooooo relieved when I opened that last window and there sat my list..... just as pleased as could be to be back home....

Now I have 6 copies of the list, saved in folders, each on a different hard drive...... Why didnt i think to do this before I fired ATT Yahoo.... I have no idea....

Sooooooooooo

Let this be a lesson to all you people out there and create folders and export your favorites folders to them before you change services.

Given that it's possible to register a domain name for just a few pounds a year (£5/$10 or so, depending on type), and that, with many providers, often includes free mail forwarding to an address of your choice, my recommendation would be to get your own domain name.

It's not complicated to set up and you don't have to have a web site. It lets you have an email address like:

you@yourname.com

Not only does it look professional, and it's easy to remember, it belongs to you, so if you change provider you can pick it up and take it with you. So you can make a reasonable assumption that you won't ever have to change your email address.

If you'd be interested, I could set it up for you, Marc.

Yeah, i know...... but i like to keep my business separate from personal and school email.....

And yeah, I know i could create multiple email addresses from the same hosting account....

It only costs, $92.00 per year plus the $9.95 for hosting and domain registration through the partnership I have with Webmasters.....

I just dont see the need at this point.....

I could also do a sub domain site from one of the volunteer sites i administer or even just create an email address on those accounts.....

I'll think about it..... Thanks.
