In the UK, Remembrance day is coming up - for anyone who prefers to wear a white poppy rather than a red poppy, they can be ordered from PPU, or bought from a few selected outlets around the UK - see http://www.ppu.org.uk/whitepoppy/index.html

Worldwide, World Aids Day is 1st December. The 2007 theme, “leadership”, highlights the need for innovation, vision and perseverance in the face of the AIDS challenge. The campaign calls on all sectors of society such as families, communities and civil society organisations - rather than just governments - to take the initiative and provide leadership on AIDS. Last year, several people here had difficulty in getting hold of red ribbons - local outlets seemed not to want to stock them. So order in good time from your favourite charity source ...

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. ... Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night devoid of stars." Martin Luther King
