Whats everyones plans for Thanksgiving this year?
As for myself, I am cooking a big turkey..... Which is being added to the feast put on at the local gay club.....
This is done every year for all major holidays for the many young people hereabouts that for one reason or another they dont feel at home or are not welcomed to their family gathering as is the norn,
So we, the older people within the gay community become their family for a day..... It's nice to have everyone together.
So what are you doing?
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

This probably, for obvious reasons, isn't a favorite holiday in the Gay community. So many of us are estranged from our families. As for myself, I have some family that is loving and accepting but not all of them by any means. So, even if I weren't separated by a long distance, I don't think I would be welcome at a family feast.
I have done the gay club/bar Thanksgiving thing and found it to be full of forced gaiety (no pun intended) and a good deal of melancholy. Today I assist my church in preparing and serving a meal for the down and out. There are a number of gay people in my church, besides myself, and our kitchen is full of good smells and good humor. Other folks at the church, without family, also pitch in.
And it isn't hobos, for the most part, that come for the meal. There are a lot of younger people, even some families. I expect there will be even more this year because the economy is tight around here. But the joy of sharing and giving helps to take the sting from familial estrangement.
There are community kitchens everywhere looking for help and I highly recommend it to chase the blues away. It works equally well at Christmas too. But use whatever frosts your cake to get through the day. Love and peace to you all.

Charlie and I plan to go to China Town and have a Dim Sum feast. It will last about 1 1/2 hours and we will share many, many tasty dishes.
Oh yes I know, we'll be hungry an hour later, but we'll have cold chicken waiting at home.
