Timmy has some simple rules at the head of this forum. They are good, simple, sensible rules.
The forum has had its ups and downs over the years, but by and large it has acquired a reputation for tolerance, humour and interesting and at times fairly profound debate.
Clearly, in any open-ended community each individual will find some people he likes, some about whom his feelings are neutral, and maybe one or two whom he dislikes. That's inevitable. If you dislike someone, neither Timmy nor anyone else can prevent you from carrying on a war of words by e-mail, but your personal dislikes should NOT be aired in the forum. It embarrasses other posters and may drive some away. It will certainly discourage new posters. Certainly it makes those responsible look foolish.
No-one should feel that he has the right to say whatever he likes; such arrogance puts him on a level with the appalling Fred Phelps. Backbiting and sniping has destroyed several useful forums over the years. This forum has brought a great deal of pleasure - and in some cases some real support - to far more people than the number of regular posters would suggest. Civilised argument is fine, cheap insults are not.
Timmy has had a harrowing time in recent weeks and months. Without him there would be no forum. Please respect his wishes and ensure that your posts are courteous and considerate; that is the least we can do to express our appreciation of his site. He has enough on his plate without worrying about what is going on here.
PLEASE think about this carefully. If I, as a long-term contributor, feel that catching up tonight was an unpleasant experience, how much more distateful must it seem to an irregular visitor?
Put bluntly, if your ego is too big to play nice, then go play someplace else.
For a' that an' a' that,
It's comin' yet for a' that,
That man tae man, the worrld o'er
Shall brithers be, for a' that.

Did I miss something?
Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

Just read all the posts dated Nov. 1st. Nothing wrong as far as I can see.
And I can see pretty far.....
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I have missed whatever it was that you saw, and I am not going to look for it. I trust everyone here to behave well towards each other, and I will not stop trusting.
Please would you each consider "Was it I?" about yourselves. If you think it was please do not apologise, please simply act to change subtly what you do. We don;t need sackcloth and ashes, we just need decency

A little bit of immaturity. A few posts that could be taken multiple ways.
Nothing to get too upset over. I've seen far bigger dramas in my 6 years here (wow it's been a long time).

... make me look like some kind of idiot for raising the issue.
For that reason - and that alone - I repeat below a couple of examples of what depressed me:
"Sex is one thing. Ice cream and sex are a personal thing to be enjoyed, not made to look smutty - unless you like to conduct yourself like a perv.
This is addressed to the original poster."
and in response:
"Now I am absolutly convinced......You are a fool....How the hell do consider being gay an honor? It is a fact of life.... of existance... Like having two eyes or a nose, or an asshole... You know what they are don't you... Look into a mirror, you'll see what I mean... That is about the most idiotic thing I have ever read. Anyplace... ever..."
If you think that is adult and responsible, I beg to disagree.

Not an idiot, just bad with dates. You directed everyone to look at posts dated on the 1st. Both of the posts you quote were dated on the 2nd....at least on my computer.

He was expressing an opinion, his. If he feels honored to be gay, that's fine with me. I too found the thought of what was said on this subject quiet discusting, but do not believe this practice if it is true is strictly a gay one. I really don't care what people do as long as they don't hurt someone and if they don't deem it necessary to inform me of all the details. This may have scared some young gays straight, if they were worried about even giving a blow job. I don't know why you took it so personal. You're free to follow any sexual practice that the law allows.

Dates appear in the timezone of your choice.
I am absolutely not going to get involved in this thread as a participant except to say that Cossie does not look an idiot, he has pointed something out he wishes people to see.
Whether people understand or feel strongly about what he has shown is their call. I simply ask us all to look at the rules and seek to return to them.

Cossie, I think you are a too respected member of the board for this post to make you look an idiot.
There is, however, a risk (and this has nothing to do with you) that free speech could be suppressed here by the bullying tactics of the more intemperate writers. I have sensed more than once an atmosphere of 'I like to have my own way'. Let's get back to tolerance in disagreement.
Hugs
