What do the symbols at the left of the thread entries mean? There's a triangle a folder and a mini page. Sometimes the folder seems to be burning. Am I stupid? Does everyone get it without needing to be told?

The triangle indicates wether or not the thread is expanded or not,
The folder indicates the thread, a flaming folder indicates a hot topic of conversation, i think set off by 10 replies or more....
The page indicated text i think........
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

If you don't click on the "Expand all threads" menu at the top of the page, you can click on that triangle to accomplish the same thing. This enables you to see all the posters who replied to that particular thread.
When you start your own thread or post to any thread you have a choice of icons to have showing. The mini-page is the standard and will be posted unless you change it by clicking on a different icon. I clicked on the smiley face.
You will occasionally see a small picture of a mountain and sun to the right of the thread name. This indicates that there is a graphic attached.
