... what are your plans for story posting? I hope you are well and recovering from your Mother's death. Mine also passed away two weeks ago after a short illness, so I know that you have many details to deal with. My father can not live alone and they have lived for over 45 years in the same house. We're getting him settled at my sister's and will deal with clearing and selling the house in January.

I'm sorry to hear about that Jim. My Dad had a tough time too when my Mom passed away. Being with family helps a lot though. Best wishes.

I am planning to restart over the Christmas period.
I am sorry to hear of your mother's death. I hope sincerely that you and she left nothing that needed to be shared unsaid before she died.
The work after death is enormous. People who have not been there have no concept of just how much has to be done. I recommend Ebay for an awful lot of otherwise unsaleable stuff.

to both you and Paul for your condolences. Since I had spent 2 weeks caring for my Dad while she was in the hopsital and visiting her twice a day there was nothing left unsaid. In addition, I gave the eulogy at her funeral.
As you say, the work is enormous. Our first task was to convince Dad that he couldn't live alone (he has a weak heart and Alziemer's (sp) which varies in severity day-to-day). After hearing so from several family members and friends he finally has accepted the fact after hearing it from his doctor.
Mother was a collector of painted plates (nearly 100 of them throughout the house) and others have also suggested using the internet to sell them; along with an equal number of nick-nacks. Fortunately, within the past year, a major clearing of the garage was done; but there remains many tools of my father's trade as a carpenter. We will find out in January what work the house might need; I suspect the old hardwood flooring will have to be replaced.
Thank you again, and I look forward to the continuation of the stories that I have been following.

If the flooring is old enough that it is solid wood, I would recommend getting someone in to restore it. Generally, they sand off the old varnish and redo it. My mother's home has solid oak hardwood floors. Every ten years or so she has someone in to perk it up. The house is 70 years old. The flooring greatly increases its value. Newer hardwood floors are just veneer and are not worth much.

Tools do have a good value on ebay. I've just sold a load of planes, files, machine tools, taps and dies, etc
Collectables vary. Junk sells well, too!
Don't think about changing anything in the house before getting a (free) professional opinion. We did with my mother's and the advice was "Let the buyer change things, but depersonalise it and remove all the clutter."

Hey i am so sorry to here of your loss Jim b and yours Timmy
It is such a shock to the system when we lose some one, we know that old people and ill people die.
But it hurts bad, because it is a part of you that has now gone.
But we have our private thoughts that help when we feel like being close.
life is to enjoy.
