I am a Jew and my knowledge about the message of Christmas is rather sketchy. In another thread a poster kindly mentioned one message that I do recognize: "Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men".

Forgive my Jewish cynicism, but "Peace on Earth"? - Not in our lifetimes!

Now "Goodwill to all men" (and women and children) is something that we do have control over. I come to this message board to spend a while with kindred souls. All too often I find a definite absence of "goodwill"; the goodwill is alloyed and cloyed by sheer annoying obstinacy. We just need a little self-control when at the keyboard to rectify that - and it can be done!

Maybe that message should be reversed: True goodwill to all men might eventually bring about Peace on Earth.

Sincerest best wishes to everyone here. May you have a truly joyous holiday.

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)
