I note with some relief that the people of Iowa have rejected the Anne Robinson of American politics in their first caucuses. I refer of course to that ghastly Hillary Clinton.

As relieved as you seem about the rejection of Hillary, I am as equally unsettled by the acceptance of Mike Huckabee by the people of Iowa. It would be like having evangelist Jerry Falwell running the country. BTW, I'm not stating my political preference, so please don't read between the lines.

As a non-American I believe I do not have a right to make a political choice between candidates or parties in the presidential election and so I am neither pro Democrat nor pro Republican. However, whoever the next American President is, it will affect most of the citizens of the world.
Mike Huckabee came from nowhere and as yet has made no impressions on me. Everything I see and read about Mrs Clinton puts me off. She is a go-getter in politics for herself (personal opinion) and this is despite everything she says. As the old saying goes, if her lips are moving she is telling lies.
In 2004 I said on this MB that the Democrat contender was a loser. (I can't even remember his name now.) Again this was not a political judgement, but a personal one largely based on body language.

Dear Nigel,
You have made me think far more globally with your post than anyone in the US has. I value that aspect of this MB more than you can imagine. We in the US seem to forget that our decisions impact global markets and cultures. My issue with Hillary is this: If she were elected, the US would have had a succession of George Bush the 1st (1988, Bill Clinton (1992), Bill Clinton (1996), George Bush the 2nd (2000), George Bush the 2nd (2004), and Hillary Clinton, essentially setting up a 2 family dynasty in US politics. There are new voters who in their lifetime have only known of the Bush and Clinton families as presidents. That, for me, is the least, but very damning, reason to not have another Clinton in the White House.
With all respects,
Scott
