Well, what do you want for your birthday?

What did XD in the subject mean? What is the significance of 18 years in the Phillipines? Am I going to have to call you "Sir"?

What are you going to get out of it?

Love,
Anthony

Hey! I want a bf!!lol!;-D Wow I still can't believe it...I will be... *gasp* 18 years OLD, and an ADULT. And... although it is extremely scary, I sorta look forward to it.
I dunno...it's pretty much the same as in any other country...just 18. Freedom. Responsibility. etc. heheh...
However, in our country, we usually have a 'coming out' party for 18 year old girls, which we call a 'debut'. Kinda like the sweet16 thing in the US...i think. Anyway, it's usually a formal thing where the celebrator is dressed up in a fancy (usually white) gown along with other girls that are turning 18. They do the cotillon, which is some sort of procession and dancing. I believe this originated from England's old times when they presented young women to the court as being eligible for marriage. But nowadays, at least in the Philippines, we just do it not to introduce the women to the court, but only as a big formal bash to celebrate her big day.
Which reminds me...my errrr ex-'gf''s celebrating her debut on the 26th...er yeah.
Another tradition during this grand celebration is the 18 Candles presentation where 18 ladies light 18 candles to resemble the 18 lights that will serve as guidance to the Debutante as she transitions to the status of a full grown woman.
btw did I mention the dancing part? In a debut there's this traditional dance where the debutante shares a dance with 18 men each one offering a rose. This is The 18 Roses Dance/waltz..thing. So guess who's her 18th rose and gets to have THE "special" dance with her?? Me.

Dear Steve,

Is my arithmetic right? 14 days takes us to 1 Feb. And you have the special dance with that girl on 26th Jan. That sounds quite a do.

Life is amazing! When I went into the navy to do my national service at 19 I not only had never kissed anyone but family but I did not have a single female friend (or even acquaintance). The school was a boys school. Only one of my friends had a sister and she was four years younger. There were no joint dances with the local girls' school as there are today.

And of course I didn't know about sexuality one way or the other and so I wasn't impatient for a gf or a bf and people didn't have bfs then (or if they did they kept them secret).

So, in some ways you are blessed with the fruits of the earth (or maybe will be!) but in some ways you are required to grow up pretty damn quick.

Love,
Anthony

thanx dude;-D
I have NO idea how to celebrate an appropriate 18th birthday. If any of the more experienced 18th celebrators here could give me some advice on how to make it a great day for every1 invited (friends, kids, relatives and far off aunts included), I would LOVE to hear it.
Domo!;-D
