Last week Israel suffered another earth tremor. Our building shook for several seconds. So, preparedness for the big one that must come sooner or later is now a matter of public debate. The Knesset held a session on this topic. One member, representing an ultra-religious party, claimed that these earthquakes are caused because Israel has not delegitimized homosexuality! (The spokesman for the Gay Association responded that we were delighted that the honourable member attributes to us such magical powers, but that it is strange that he, a religious man, does not see the earthquakes as "an act of God".)
Meanwhile, back in the sane world of reality, Israel's attorney-general has determined that gay and lesbian couples can now adopt children in the same way as heterosexual couples.

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

Once again, the State of Israel shines as a beacon of human rights and democratic process in the ocean of intolerance and religious fundamentalism of the Moslem world. People like to think that Israel is as fundamentalist Jewish as Iran is fundamentalist Moslem, but the facts are otherwise. Israel is a secular state with tolerance for any religion, and it looks like gay folk are seen as "normal." Bravo dudes!
Glad you survived the earthquake!

Because of the earthguake?
I'm confused........
Anyhoo..... Even as conservative as Ohio is, I know several gay couples that have adopted multiple children....
We arent as backwards as some people seem to think.

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Earthquakes are not caused by someone being gay or not. In a lot of places, earthquakes happen all the time.
Why does it take some places in the world so long for people to legalize same sex couple's adopting children? I don't think it needs any legalizing of the sort. If someone wants to adopt a child, let them.
(I hope that wasn't too foreward.)

I imagine that the fact that there has been no quake following this announcement is one up to the Israeli LGBT folks?

I have a great friend in Chicago. I think he was in one of he New England states at the time, but he, as a single gay man, was able officially to adopt a 14 year old problem boy.
After about 3 years the lad asked "Dad, are you gay?" He hadn't paid it any heed or noticed, even though Dad was in a regualr relationship wioth an "uncle" at the time.
During the adoption he was asked, carefully, why he wanted to adopt but was unmarried. he tells me that he said "I do not wish to be a husband. I wish to be a father. Marriage has no interest for me."
At that time, about 18 years ago now and gay men were not allowed to adopt. Single men adopting was unusual.
The lad grew, secure in a decent home, and turned from a hooligan into a useful member of society. And he has married, and is raising his own family. This was an astute social worker who ensured that the adoption went through.
