It is up to you to see if it is appropriate. I suggest you link to sensible parts of it

Sorry Jordie, I would strongly reccommend against linking this site to any GSA site. You wouldn't be able to link part of IMOFATS without all the rest of it becoming available with a few mouse clicks.

GSA is more or less, sponsored by the school where you are, or at least with the school's knowledge and acceptance. There are stories on this IMOFATS site that are questionable from a trans-generational point of view, and that the majority of guys posting here are way older than high school would cause a lot of trouble in my opinion.

My personal suggestion is to limit the links you provide to those organizations in your particular area that deal with LGBT teen and gender issues, like some of those I sent to you. Fifteen minutes on the web and you'll have all the links anybody could need.

To satisfy the religious among the parental units, you could give links to the local MCC, Unitarian, or any other "gay friendly" church.

But it should be LOCAL to where you are. Guys and girls from YOUR SCHOOL should feel that they are being offered help locally, not by some link to the UK.

It's a matter of using judgment. Eldon makes a very important set of points in his post and you have to satisfy the people who "sponsor" your site that your links are appropriate.

It is unlikely that any site with erotica would be approved, but, even if approved, there is always some fool who would choose to be offended.

The challenge is separating the resources from the erotica. Another challenge is that people are stupid. They do not understand that the entire internet is accessible (unless filtered) and that individual sites are just a part of it. Search engines probably brought everyone here in the first place, and search engines pick up everything.

http://www.outproud.org/ :The National Coalition for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Youth. "We invite you to take advantage of the wide range of resources available for youth and educators."

http://www.gayboysupport.nl/ Info and support for gay boys. This is a site in the Netherlands but can be read in English as well as Dutch. They have an extensive database about all sorts of questions and concerns.

These two also list other, safe links.

I would also highly recommend this link: http://w-ribbon.tripod.com/ This is the White Ribbon Campaign: Raising Awareness about Gay-Teen Suicide And remembering those who we've lost. I would suggest your club adopt this campaign as an outreach to all hurting gay, lesbian and transgender youth.

Ask Grasshopper if you can use a few of his stories. He may let you put them directly on the site

I don't know where you are, but if you want to link to some young people in a gay youth group, my mother is youth director of a glbt youth group in south carolina. they have a fun web site on myspace.

Hit me up if you want the link. IM: crzypunx or shoot me an email.

Also, Grasshopper and Codey both have words of encouragement for gay youth. Young people relate best to other young people, I think. You might link to:

and

Humph......

I was unaware that internet people were not real.....

If what makes them real to you is meeting them face to face, they would still be unreal internet people to any of us.

Sorry Jordie, but I have to disagree with posting any link on your GSA site to anything other than another "official" site. You can visit Grasshopper's and Cody's sites and maybe harvest "official" links from them, but steer clear of anything that could lead an underage guy back to anything approaching porn. If guys want porn, they know where to look for it and how to find it. If you really want to direct questioning and in-danger guys and girls to help, then limit your links to those places that specialize in those services.

I'm going to say this again too. If your site is even marginally supported by the school and school board where you live, do not present any URL links that aren't "official" and backed by recognized organizations. One whiff of smut, and they'll trim you off at the knees.

Donny

Jordan, Eldon is right/ There was a boy who came on here and his parents had put a tracking program on the computer. They came here and found what this site was and needless to say the poopy hit the fan. I also know that if the parents have a blocking program on the computer, like Net Nanny, it will block this site. Jeff cant pull this site up on his cause of that.

No Jordie, not doing anything is not the correct course. you came here looking to find the answer to a question, and people offered their opinions. I offered my opinions strongly because I feel strongly about this. It's your decision to do what you like with the GSA web site. I have to think that you are not the only person involved, even if you happen to be the driving force and the webmaster of the site. In this early stage you should be trying to gain respect for the GSA and gain a sense of the legitimacy of the GSA from the straight majority. Personally, I think a conservative approach would be best until you feel the way ahead.

I know you're gung-ho to get the site plastered with great links. Just remember that critical eyes are watching.
