Im listening to the news this morning. The announcer comes on and says there is something about the HIV virus they have found and it may have an impact on finding a cure. To me this is very important and I was waitting for the full story. What do I get, Prince Harry on the front line, who gives a flying F--K. They have news that may affect Millions and millions of people and what do we get, something about the prince getting his stay in a battle zone cut short cause the news found out about it. What in the Hell is wrong with people?

And they go on about heroism and incidentally glorify the war(s). And treat that poor young man in such a way as to addle his brains and ensure that he will find it really difficult to do anything useful.
And progress towards a cure or means of prevention of HIV and AIDS is much more important than anything that young man does or that happens to him. (I did work for the Bristol AIDS charity for a few years.)
Actually I think maybe the invasion of Afghanistan may be justified whereas that of Iraq certainly wasn't.
It would have cost a great deal less than the war has done to offer to buy all the opium at double the going price and then, in those areas where it could be checked, to offer the same for other crops that replaced poppies so that the opium wouldn't even be grown any more.
As it is the people of the USA and UK and most of europe have paid a huge price for a lot of death and almost no gains - indeed we have made ourselves feared and hated by much of the muslim world. Dale Carnegie would NOT have approved 
And they try to make it unpatriotic not to support our armed forces - as if opposing the war meant that we wanted them to get killed; it's because they (among others) are getting killed that we oppose the war.

Item on news last night about a break through on a new weapon that neither kills nor injures but becomes so uncomfortable in heat that it drives the people it's pointed at to break up and run away. Here is a weapon working on the principle of a ray gun that would accomplish the goals of our military without the killing of war. The defense dept. won't let it be used in the field because it hasn't been tested. It hasn't been tested because the defense dept won't authorize it to be used in the field. Sounds like military logic? The field commanders don't want it. They only want weapons that kill and destroy. Sad. The never learn.

This is really no solution to humanizing the art of warfare, Tad. It would be used to get the enemy to run from cover so they could then be shot. Perhaps the devil we know is better than the devil we don't know.

The point I was making was that Prince Harry was more important then a cure for Aids. But then again I guess I posted it wrong since I dont have your years of experience and wisdom. Oh wait lets see, this might turn out to be a discussion about Old vs Younger or something like that.

When news is presented it has to be fast paced, otherwise one story will dominate the tine alloted and nothing else will be presented.
Research regarding aids is important, granted.... But not to everyone.
It was a news blog, and i'm sure it didn't get into the technical aspects of the science involved. If you want more information, then why not research it, find out what you consider to be lacking in the news article?
For future referance, news is news is news... I saw the article about the ray gun the army developed and actually I thought it a quite clever device...
As for the old vs young remark? Well, That was a bit uncalled for don't you think?

I agree with my bud Curtis and his comments on the American media. But I did find this picture H.R.H., and if that's what I think it is hanging down the leg of his trousers, it certainly deserves ample media coverage.
