Dear Jordan,
I'm sure that happens. I guess I'm lucky: I don't think it's happened to me but I can easily imagine discovering something about eg a trusted lover being unfaithful that would hurt very deep.
And I'm sure there are other ways that have nothing to do with love.

Something has happened to a close friend, or this close friend has read something bad posted or written about them, and it affected them very badly??
You love them enough that their pain has become your pain too?
I think that's called empathy, and it's a tres wonderful thing to have.
