How do you reconcile your sexuality with your strong Christian beliefs? For some young people this can cause tremendous inner turmoil and feelings of shame, guilt and unworthiness. Yet it need not be that way. Please check out the following website that is a short autobiography of someone who worked through those issues and has some wonderful insights to share. Though no longer a youngster himself, he tells about growing up with a strong religious background while struggling with the issue of his bi-sexuality. It is a story all too familiar to some. But he goes on to list how his bible studies uncover some myths and misconceptions that churches, even today, use to perpetuate their bias against homosexuality. Today he believes that God loves and accepts him just the way he is. I strongly recommend this website if you struggle with these issues. Please go to: http://lakeweedatarrowhead.net/index.htm

I realize there are members of this board with very strong anti-religious convictions. But there are people who need to hear the message above and aren't going to be helped by turning this into a 'God is a myth' debate.

Thanks, Nigel. I put a period on the end of the url that shouldn't have been there. It works now.

Dear Paul,

Have you read THE GOD BOX by Alex Sanchez? I think it is very good and is obviously written by someone who has fought his way through all these arguments.

I'm not religious but recognise that people sometimes are and really need to know that religion does not condemn homosexuals or what they do.

Love,
Anthony

OK.... From a professional level of opinion I would have to say...
err... possibly...

But that is from the mind and not necessarily from the heart...

Kevy is a religous person... Hell he was a Southern Baptist Minister before I brought him over to the dark side... Use the force Luke...

Personally, I was raised in the Roman Catholic tradition... nuf said bout that...

I enjoy church... I like the calming effect it has upon me and I like the sense of community it brings along with it...

Does God love gays... If they are good gays then I have to say yes...

If they are bad gays then they have the chance to become goos and God will love them as all others...

It's just that simple...

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Oh, one more thing....

Being gay has nothing to do with God loving you...

God could care less about the shit happening on Earth, much less about who we are fucking and who we're not. God has much more important things to worry about. Jonathan would add, "That is, if there is a God."

I have read the posts in this thread and one thing strikes me in particular, and that is that many of the posters - regardless of their religious (or non-religious) beliefs claim to know what God thinks, loves etc. If they were more careful in their wording would they not say that the sources (bible etc) tell us that God thinks, loves etc?

A written text is always subject to interpretation therefore it cannot have one absolute never-to-change meaning, because its meaning will depend on the interpretation given it by the reader. So how is it possible that so many people claim to know the one uniquely possible interpretation of anything written in any book, however venerable it might be?

I do not know whether God loves gays because I believe in a God that is beyond any kind of physical contact. I do know that my religion teaches that God approves of all those who try to lead an upright life and that there is no sin that is absolutely unforgivable (knowing that there are some who think that being gay is a sin).

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

People tend to believe what they want to believe, and find convenient. Like "Cafeteria Catholics" who say "I'm Catholic but I don't buy into this, or that, or the other." I can't quote a source for my personal religious beliefs because there is no source other than my own personal comfort level of belief. I modify those beliefs to allow me to do what I want to do without loading myself with religious guilt trips. In my opinion "Do unto others whatsoever you would have them do unto you" is the only thing any rational person needs from "The Bible."
