Non-profit org to host international masturbation festival
by Nick Langewis
Come one, come all, to the annual event where the power to raise the issue of sexual liberty is in the palm of your hand!
San Francisco's non-profit Center for Sex & Culture will once again be a host to participants from a battery of countries, both in person and online, where they will touch base (flared or otherwise) at a pubic exhibition like few others, known as the Masturbate-A-Thon, celebrating the month of May as National Masturbation Month.
San Francisco-based adult accessory merchant Good Vibrations created National Masturbation Month in 1995 in honor of the outspoken former Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, fired by the White House in late 1994 for stating open support for encouraging masturbation as an alternative to riskier sexual activity among young people at a United Nations AIDS conference.
The Masturbate-a-Thon has two major objectives: To honor masturbation as an "excellent way to have sex" and raise money; all donations go to the Center for Sex & Culture, and can be given in lump sum, as a $20 entry fee at the event, or in the form of a pledge based on the length of a particular participant's performance.
San Francisco's latest Masturbate-a-Thon will take place on May 25, 2008, at 1519 Mission Street. Doors open at 12pm for participants seeking to set new endurance records, and at 3pm for less competitive participants.
