I just received an email from the following account:
100676.3711<100676.3711@compuserve.com> with the subject: Romantic Love to see. It contained an attachment named: urfriend.scr (38k). McAfee Virus Scan found the following virus: W32/Yaha.g@MM Virus Found It says there is no cure.
The email claims that it is a screen saver and requests that you pass it around to all your friends. I would caution you not to open any such email.
Think good thoughts,

In addition the originator is not the perpetrator. usually. if oyu oinspect the real email header you wil see that the email address has both been faked to be one of your firneds, and appears to be sent by another. or from two different people you do not know.
The triuth is that it comes form neither, but from some other poor bastard;s system. I say poor, because usually his disk has been trashed and he was too "poor" to buy a virus checker.
Usually MS Outlook or MS Outlook Express are the infected software elements, all because Bill Nerd fails to close security loopholes.
However the world would be virus free if the internet companies screened OUT all virus files when mail is processed
Don't blame the guy who "sent it to you", nor think that someone actually took a real decision to send it. They did not. Well, except the originator.
Do not open .exe .scr .bat .pif for sure. Scan .htm or .html .doc .xls etc

One of the things I like about hotmail is that all attachments are scanned using McAfee prior to being downloaded. Hotmail wouldn't even allow me to download this file because there was no cure. Unfortunately, Outook Express did download the file when I used it to synchronize my account. But therein lies the benefit of having Norton Antivirus installed on my computer. It recognized the virus and allowed me to delete it from my system. It screens all attachments that I download and I NEVER open one until it has given a file a clean bill of health. If there is one piece of software that I always make certain is up to date, it is my antivirus software. Everything else can be an antique, but not that.
I posted the warning here because I only use the littlevowel account to receive mail about my stories or to correspond with persons from this and a couple of other gay messageboards. I just figured if it was sent to me, it could be sent to some of you. I also figured that if that account belongs to someone here, they may recognize it and hopefully will realize that they may be propagating this virus albeit unintentionally.

E, I would STRONGLY suggest you get Norton Anti Virus. I think it is MUCh better than Mcafee and it checks incoming and outgoing Email. I get the Klez Virus EVERY day. The most I have had so far has been 13 in one day Norton KILLS it every time.

You have to set up the POP proxy thingy, which is a bit of a kludge but works well when set up - I couldn't make it work with Outlook using multiple POP accounts simultaneously, but there may be a way.
I have an OLD version of NAV (9.5 I think.) I'm not sure if it's because its the "corporate edition" or because it's old, but there is no subscription required for the virus updates - it never expires. But, it doesn't have the POP proxy (no e-mail scanning) and prolly a few other bells or whistles missing.

Thanks. I have been running NAV on my computer for a long time. It is Hotmail that uses McAfee to scan all attachments that are sent across their email system. So I get the benefit of having both antivirus programs whenever I use Hotmail.
