Last night on the news here there was an item about yet another service for gays offered by the Tel Aviv municipality. Apparently, quietly and behind the scenes, it has been functioning now for three or four years. It is a meeting place for men over the age of sixty who have been married and now have decided to come out the closet. Those interviewed said that they had been happily married but that now they did not want to be burdened any more with the weight of keeping their orientation hidden. It was a most moving news item. Does anything like this exist elsewhere?

Hey there JF,
I think that I am one of few here, if not the only one, that calls South Africa my home.
As for your question, I think that I am naturally unqualified to say as I am only 23, but can say that I have not heard of any such thing in South Africa. Personally I feel that we are an extremely open and accepting nation when it comes to homosexuality.
I consider myself one of the privileged few to have been born into a time and a place that is so welcoming of who I am. Make no mistake, things in SA have not always been a bed of roses, and with the current xenophobic attacks on our communities, it seems to me as though we face yet another hurdle as a developing country.
Our 'Rainbow Nation' as it is stands at the edge of something great. Whether it is a greater good, or a greater evil I myself am not sure. However I can say with certainty that in my 23 years I have not, to date, heard of any kind of homosexual expulsion or exclusion in SA.
I may seem to be rambling quite a bit, but I am truly grateful to have the acceptance and help that I do have in my every day life from not just my family and friends, but from everyone around me too.
An unequivocal pain haunts me daily brought on by the knowledge of Homophobia world wide, and what can really happen when people don't like who you are... Strange, but I always thought that who we are is only skin deep. Should we remove the layers of skin that we coven so much, we are all the same ( Well you know what I mean ). How can you hate someone that you don't even know? But I guess that this is just another one of those things that makes so undeniably human

Well, JFR, more strength to the Tel Aviv local authority, I say.
But I haven't heard of such a specialised organisation here. There are gay self-help and social organisations and help lines, but I've never used any of them.
I'm curious to know what Timmy is thinking of.
Love,
Anthony

Here in the states there is something like that, they are called city and county parks. If all these women over 60 knew what their husbands were doing on the week ends and in the evening crusing the parks, the divorce rate would go up another 40%

Hi Tempo,
I read through your response to my post twice, just to make sure that it was not I who had misunderstood. I am now certain that you did misunderstand either my post or its purpose. That's OK, it's probably my fault anyway. Just to clarify the gay scene in Tel Aviv for you here is another item from today's news: http://tiny.pl/kmnr

Oh! Sorry Timmy, I'm thick.
I meant that I hadn't heard of a public body funding that sort of organisation. Of course the chances are that they would do so quietly lest the gutter press tries to pillory them for spending public money on perverts - I'm sure that's how it would be portrayed.
Love,
Anthony

Here in Sandusky, Ohio we have the local "Gay Pride Association" which is basicaly older guys that plan the Pride events, picnics, christmas party... that sort of thing...
We also go on day trips to different places...
It's a good way to get out without having to deal with the loud music, childish drama, petty relationships, and backstabbing that goes on in the local club scene... Of course there are exceptions... there always are.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

OMG... My most sincerest apologies to all, I had totally misunderstood what was going on. No excuses really, but I had a real 'up on my soap box' day yesterday, after I had heard some rather horrifying stories from a friend that is here to visit from the US. So once again my apologies to all

There's a group in Richmond, Prime Timers, that's a meeting place for older gay men. It's part of a large organization of such groups. I went to one meeting and decided that I didn't care to have my bod pawed quite so eagerly by the more senior members.
