Well hey guys,

Hope that you are all keeping well.

Any of you that are registered to facebook may well have received the following link to an article that was published in our "Sunday Sun" newspaper.

http://www.mambaonline.com/images/features/sundaysun_small.pdf

I am gob smacked... I would like you to have a look at this and let me know your feelings.

What upset me the most was the fact that I am always bragging about how friendly South Africa is and how much of an accepting nation we are, and this throws that whole thought process into chaos...

Tempo-chan^^

Soo, I've only (litterally) read the first few lines at the top of the page, and my reaction is what is this guy on!?

Now I've read the part where it says a man in a homosexual relationship gave birth to a child. Two reactions here; is that possible (cause I really don't know, sorry if I sound a little arrogant) - and if he did, then thats cool, leave him alone about it. It's not like he gave birth to your kid bud, seriously this guy needs to grow up.

"Natural wonder of things (?!) Oh kind sir, if you would could you please tell us your version of the 'natural' woner of things... I must say, even though I'm a kind person, this guy is a complete jerk. I'm not going to insult him any more then that, he is a big jerk..

(Oh, and I'll be commenting on this as I read.) A homosexual is a bishop (don't know what that is, but) Good for him. At least someone made a kind choice.

It's not marrying men and 'ditto' (what ever that means) women you jerk. A man and a woman can get married, and if two guys fall in love and want to be a married couple, they have every right to do so.

Oh, and I must also add that the picture of the guy 'marrying' the animal is creeping me out. "Man and goat".. that seems a little odd to me.

"The earlier you live like a "real" human being, the better. (what? kind sir, explain what a REAL human being is then, please, I'm all ears for that!)

After reading the article, I know that a lot of people hate homosexuals, and think their dirty trash (public view, not mine) and I know that some days its really hard to look the other way, but like, come on.. I really do not like Jon. He's a mean person, who evidently says what he wants when he wants to say it. I can respect that, but I will not accept his views on gay people. It's not that I think their wrong, as everyone's entitled to their opinion, I just think they need to be less blunt and hurtful.

So dear sir, with this closing statement, let me ask you this. If you had a son who was gay, would you look to him with the same bluntfullness and hate that you so eagerly want to share wtih the world?

Jon's a mean person. (I'm not saying that cause I'm gay (or whichever I aml don't really care) just saying that this article is a very mean one.

When you think about it, why is it we have to have our own lifestyle and way of doing things? I'm not saying that we should blend in with everyone else but why do people hate others for being gay or who they sleep with? I just don't get it...

Yes, Tempo, Josh,

Isn't it a pity that this columnist thinks such hate-writing will appeal to his readers?

I don't think he deserves much respect and I'm glad to say that the world is clearly moving its opinions in the direction he doesn't like.

I think he's best ignored, but maybe a letter to the paper would be worth the effort.

Love,
Anthony

Perhaps. But if it's only gonna make things worse, there's no point.

Mike, I came away from reading this article with a couple of questions that I feel are relevant to how one should react to it. Firstly, who is this guy? Secondly, is this a highly read and respected newspaper?

From what you have said before it does not appear that these views reflect the general public attitude regarding homosexuality in your country. Even if he is a person who is respected and listened to and writing in a respected newspaper it may not be as bad as you feel. He certainly is not alone in his views as the world is full of powerful and respected people who share them. However, as Acam says, "the world is clearly moving its opinions in the direction he doesn't like."

A battle is being waged and it must be expected that efforts such as this article will take place. They may even represent temporary setbacks, but the overall trend is moving away from such intolerant attitudes, that is why he wrote it.

He certainly doesn't do his cause any favors in mentioning a man who "gave birth to a child", nor the idea of someone wanting to marry an animal. I view such statements as desperation talking. Instead of worrying about this man perhaps you should feel sorry for him as he and his like are clearly loosing the battle.

Those are my feelings.
