In my waking hours I've been pondering whether there is such a thing as a typical Christian name for a gay boy. Naturally parents don't know how their sons will turn out when they name them. In all likelihood the boy's sexuality is the last thing they think of when naming him.
However, in fiction the characters are named by the author. Tod(d) is a name that always strikes me as gay. (Apologies to all str8 Tods out there). In the first gay novel I read the hero was Tod Hunter. I must add that I have never met a Tod in real life.
When I write my stories I give the main characters names I particularly like. The minor characters quite often have names that sound gay.
Any suggestions for gay names?

How about "Peter B. Long" or the Chinese Stud Muffen called "Sum Wang"? But my long time love was just named "Howard" and just hearing that name gets things a twitching.

Hey,
due to the fact that the very first gay story I have ever read was Chris and Nigel by IOMFATS, I like Nigel (pun intended). Aidan is quite cool as well.
There is, however, one name, that I noticed repeats, and that is Jordan.
If I ever met any Jordan, the first idea that would probably cross my mind: is this someone like Jordan Taylor (greetings Kiwi) or Jordan Lawrence (hey Grasshopper) ???

P.S. I am pretty sure that the Noldor king Fingolfin was gay within, too

Wouldn't life be easy if we could go by name?

My best friend at school was Danny Ockwell, it wasn't till we were in the sixth that I found out that it was actually Christopher Ockwell he always wrote his name as Ockwell.D or where it officially appeared it was Ockwell.C.D.
It shouldn't take long to realise why... and yes he could too....!::-)
So I like Christopher and Daniel

There arent any gay names...
Only gay people...
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Marc is right. People are gay, not their names, and since they are usually named around the time of their birth, and it's not until much later that anyone knows if they're gay or not, the two cannot possibly be linked.
In any case, to say that any name has gay connections could be in fact a real direct insult to anyone of that name. Beware not to 'skate on thin ice' here!

Mike, while I can't dispute what you said, here are two relevants points to consider.
People sometimes change their names in later life or adopt a nickname to suit their personalities, wishes or circumstances (stage names, pen names for instance).
I referred to the use of names in fiction where the name is given to a character, often to reflect the character (personal qualities) of that character (persona dramatis).

Oh I agree, Nigel. But as you say, what people change their name or nickname to in later years is a mark of the individual's feelings.
When in comes to characters in stories, I personally chose any name, not because I feel it has any relevance to a type of character or orientation, but simply sometimes for ease of typing! Hahahaha! I bet you didn't think of that one did you? I'm no real typist, (four to five diferent fingers at the most, me!), so anything that keeps it easy..... LOL.
No, I don't particularly feel that any regular name has any connotations whatsoever, except.....
My late mother, God bless her, hated the name 'Gladys', so she changed it to 'Gay'. Yeah, right....
