World AIDS day is on 1st December, as usual. see http://www.avert.org/worldaid.htm if you're not sure what it is, or why!
Last year, a lot of people found that there were no sellers of "red ribbons" near them - it's a constant problem, as so many shops and usual outlets don't carry these because they (wrongly) see HIV / AIDS as a "gay" issue.
If anyone feels like getting a stock of ribbons, they are available from the National AIDS Trust ( http://shop.nat.org.uk/shop ) at £9 for 200 . This year, I'm considering getting a batch just to hand out at work etc ... not sure whether I'd do a formal collecting tin as well, though I might.

I'm not out to the general public so I won't be selling ribbons or shaking a collecting box. I'll wear a ribbon and am happy to tell people I used to work for the local AIDS charity.
My way is to pay a standing order to the Terrence Higgins Trust.
Why am I such a coward?
Love,
Anthony

Being or not being a "coward" (which you don't strike me as being in any way, shape or form) doesn't really come into it. It's more a question of whether it's a personally appropriate way to make a contribution. For you a donation to THT is better. Different stroke for different folks and all that stuff.
It works for me ... not so much because I'm "out" (HIV/AIDS is not a "gay" disease, and globally is usually contracted by heterosexual sex, or by passing from mother to child during birth), but because there are other issues on which I hand out tokens and engage people in conversation - hopefully in a constructive way!. For example, I usually have a stash of White Poppies (pacifist remembrance symbol) in early November.
The causes which each of us support, and the ways in which we do so, may be wildly different. The important thing (IMO) is that we *do* have things that we actively support and work for.
