I don't mean "What do you use it for?"

I mean "What do you feel its purpose is?"

A platform for diverse individuals with diverse ideas, diverse motives, diverse emotions and diverse agendas to express themselves safely under the umbrella of what most of us have in common, our sexuality?

Above all, to talk to each other. Share dreams, ideas and feelings, compare opinions and attitudes towards specific situations, for me it is about getting to know what people like me abroad think and what is different based on the cultural upbringing etc. differences. This is a place where I relax, where I smile, sometimes laugh like mad. This is also the place where I'm looking for support and understanding and where I offer support and sometimes a counsel if needed or asked for.
This is THE place of safety and comfort.

One more thing flashed through my mind while reading other threads: this site is genuine. It is not artificial. Usually people tend to use web to show what they would like to be like... I have this strange feeling that we (most of us) present ourselves in the way we really are. No suppression, no condemnation. Different opinions? It wouldn't be normal if we all thought the same (it would also be veeeeeeeeeeery boring). The more people the more opinions and, as it is said, 10 lawyers have 20 different explanations of a particular legislation. Smile

I think its purpose is to help people to accept themselves and it does this by providing a place where you can say things that embarrass you or that you are ashamed of or just that you can't say at home or at school or in whatever social situation you happen to be in. And it is a place where the reactions to what you write are always accepting and forgiving and usually not judgmental (at least not fiercely).

And there is nothing like talking something over to get to accept it and to decide how to deal with it. And it helps if some other people have similar issues and are sympathetic to your problem and tell you about it.

And I think the great range of ages helps. Almost anything you can think of will have happened to one of us who can talk about it.

Love,
Anthony

If you combine Nigel's points regarding diversity and sexual orientation, Mark's sharing of dreams, ideas, feelings, opinions and attitudes, and Anthony's helping of others through a safe place to express oneself I think you have a terrific picture of what A Place of Safety is all about. And I think it does take all three responses to correctly describe this forum.

Like all things it is not perfect, as the past few weeks testifies. But with guidance and the effort of those who participate it can achieve the ideals expressed by Nigel, Mark and Anthony.

That, I think, says it all Nick.

I could not have done better.

It is, I think, a noble purpose Timmy.

So thank you,
