JFR is heading to hospital on Tuesday for a colonoscopy. Normally this is simply an unpleasant procedure with a doctor shoving a periscope up your arse and looking for enemy shipping.
The thing is, those of us who have met him know that he is not a well man. and he and his doctors are concerned about the procedure, which they considered very carefully before allowing.
When I say "nervous" he is scared shitless.
While this is a great advantage for the periscope part he is concerned that stuff may "go wrong" and that he may not survive the normally simple procedure. Obviously that is something he will know little about, but he has much unfinished business here, not least of which is welcoming his next grandchild in May or June.

May I be the first to send JFR good wishes for the procedure.
But I don't think it is really a big deal. If it were me I might even enjoy it. I did when my doctor examined me for a swollen prostate. (I didn't tell him!)
Love,
Anthony

It is the anaesthesia and strain on his heart that is the problem. His cardiologist usually forbids ANY procedures.

I pray for a good outcome and may the doctors be keeping a vigilant eye on your vitals.

Good luck, JFR. I'll be thinking of you especially as I've been there before - not literally, you understand, and I've got a routine one promised for summer 2010. When Timmy said that you were "scared shitless", no. That's the effect of the laxative you have to take beforehand.
Hugs

I have recently had similar problems. That of needing a major operation when I already had a heart condition. I took the advice offered and accepted the need for the procedures and that in their view I was fit enough to get through it all.
No it's not nice, its uncomfortable, my camera was put up the rather smaller aperture into the bladder. All was well... at least insofar as I now know what I have not got and what actually is the problem. Now controlled entirely successfully with one drug.
The previous spinal surgery last July was another matter and yes I was also pretty scared there were unwelcome possibilities that could well have occurred. They did not.
Good luck and my very best wishes go with you. Put your trust in those professionals and we'll chat again soon and I am sure smile when recollecting it all.

Last Wendesday I had an absolutely horrible scare. My Potassium level got to 8.6. Needlesss to say they had to get an ambulance. I was still conscious and saw them put the shock paddles beside me. the only thing I could think was please let me be unconscious when you use them. My heart rate slowed to about 28 beats and was falling. the paramedics and the emergency room people kept me going till they could counter the Potassium and get my heart rate back up. They can do miraculous stuff now.

Thanks Mike.G for saying something on Jeffsfort.
Any of us that have had a medical confilict with this procedure interfering with that know what you must be going through. I will be praying your Doctors have the knowlege and skills needed for this to be something that you sail through with flying colors.

JFR is home. The pre-procedure scared feeling was real. The outcome was never in doubt.

Excellent news.
