That's the difference between a tax preparer who knows what he's doing and one who doesn't.
I breathing a huge sigh of relief after getting a second opinion on my taxes this year. We first went to a big name brand tax service and were told that between the feds and the state we owed $8,600. This evening we went to a self employed CPA who found deductions using the same info we gave the other guy and guess what? We're getting a refund of about $3300 and his fee was $70 less. The major difference was payment of a penalty for early withdrawal of a 401K. The first guy said we had to pay it, the second guy showed us we qualified for an exception.
I think I know who's doing my taxes from now on. Name brands aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Think good thoughts,
