The Love of Siam [Rak Haeng Siam].

Google it. Don't know how popular it is, but I do believe this is something everybody should be able to watch. It's hard to find a copy though.

Hi guys,
I'm back. Had to take some time to put all of this together. BTW, thanks for the reminder Timmy. Had the posts edited. Here goes:
Smile
-------------------------------------------

Summary:

The Love of Siam ( รักแห่งสยาม, Rak Haeng Siam) is a 2007 Thai romantic-drama film, written and directed by Chookiat Sakveerakul. A multi-layered family drama, a controversial element of the story is a gay romance between two teenage boys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Love_of_Siam

Movie Brief from http://bkkmindscape.blogspot.com:

According to Director Chookiat Sakveerakul, Love of Siam is the story of many kinds of love, as viewed through the eyes of Tong (Mario), a sixth-form student whose sister disappeared when he was still a child, and who carries around that emotional scar. When we first meet him, Tong has a girlfriend. However, Tong slowly distances himself from her, after he is reunited with a childhood friend, Music (Pitch). Music has a talent for singing and piano, and is trying to compose a love song for a music label. However, living alone without his parents, he has little experience of love himself, so Tong tries to help him. Music has his own admirer, a girl living next door- Ying. She and Tong’s girlfriend have one thing in common: they can’t seem to get the attention of the man they want.

Many of the film’s key moments take place in Siam Square, a popular teenage hangout in Bangkok. Director Chukiart, 26, says he started writing the script when he was a student at Chulalongkorn University, which is nearby. ‘People meet lovers, fall apart, go out with friends, laugh, and cry in Siam Square,’ he says. ‘It’s a classic, but it has been years since a film was set there.’

Cast:

Witwisit Hiranyawongkul (Mew), popularly nicknamed Pitch or Pchy, was born and raised in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He attended Catholic school Montfort College since early age and spent 12 years there. A talented singer, Pitch was the lead singer in his high school band and music has always been a big part of his life. Pitch enjoys hip hop, R&B, gospel and soul music. He plays the piano and composes music in his free time.

Mario Maurer (Tong) is a model and actor of German, Chinese and Thai descent. He attended school at St. Dominic School in Bangkok and now is studying in Ramkhamhaeng University, majoring in Communication Arts. At the age of 16, Maurer became a model doing photo shoots, commercials and music videos. In 2007, he made his feature film debut in a leading role in The Love of Siam.

I just read the plot on Wiki. It sounds very sad. That seems to be a common thread with so many gay, love films.

Found it. The entire thing is uploaded in YouTube and may take a while to download, but it's definitely worth the wait. With patience, you can also do a google search and download via Torrent.

The movie leaves you with a bittersweet, sad yet hopeful ending.

Here are links to the best parts of the movie (only if you really don't have the time to watch it). I'd definitely recommend watching the entire thing though. Heads up: the film is almost about three hours long.

Warning: Spoilers ahead. Do not watch if you plan to see the movie.

What I really like best about this movie are the characters.

Definitely fell in love with Tong. LOL. Smile Especially during the part when he starts to question his sexual identity and asks Ying 'What am I, Ying? Everyone is upset with me because I don't know what I am.' Tong- you are not alone! *sniff*

What I felt after watching 'The Love of Siam' was somewhat the same feeling I got after reading 'Chris and Nigel'. I felt a connection to the characters some how and it felt so real that I thought I could almost reach out to them and become their friend. LOL! Smile

I definitely felt for Ying as well. In the last scene at Siam Square where she guides Tong to see where Mew's band is playing nearby, she finally accepts the fact that the two boys love each other. On the way to see Mew, she finally lets go and leaves the two boys alone.

It definitely takes a lot of courage to be happy for other people, especially when it's your own happiness that is lost. It takes a long while- a really long while- before you finally realize: if you really love someone, you have to learn to let them go. A cliche as it may be, is always easier said than done.

What happens to Tong and Mew? View the ending to find out.

Oh yeah, one more thing: Mario Maurer is HAWT. Here's Tong for you! Enjoy! Hehe. Smile

Too bad none of the male leads are really gay though. Haha. Razz
