I have finished the first draft of my book, and I am 2/3rds of the way through the first edit phase, with a very kind offer I've accepted also for proofreading (totally separate from edits).

The next hurdle is the second edit to get it into a more compact form, and then choosing a set of publishers to write to to be rejected by!

My wife has read it and declares it to be very readable, although rather sad.

I even have a working title that I am chewing over with myself to see if it works.

Great news. I haven't written much but when I try to write something, I find by the time I'm done writing, I am about 20% complete. I tend to throw words on paper at a frantic pace with the initial write, then edit until I think it's good enough. It seems that every time I reread, I change something else for the better. I really think I could edit a thing forever. It's like the first time through, I am talking to myself. Then I try to translate it into something that other people can understand. First write is reflection. All the edits deal with communication. A book that communicates well should stand a good chance of being published, I would think. I think Amazon publishes electronic books for their Kindle reader. The low production costs should mean that a lot more things are published.

Now dream a little. Who would star as Timmy and John in the movie?

Hahahaa. Well I don't think it would lend itself to a movie. We only know the motivations of one person, the diarist.

He was not such a wonderful boy, you know. I just created an illusion around him to make it seem as if he was.

Not true. He was a terrific kid albeit terribly confused and had his head mucked about by the adults in his life. It certainly brings to mind the old adage that "as the twig is bent, so grows the tree". Have you wondered how you might have faired if you'd had the advantages of the internet at that age when your mind was so full of questions?
