Thank you, Timmy. I had never heard of emule. I did try BitTorrent once but it I think would only work if I removed the dynamic address allocation that was part of my firewall arrangements and I didn't want to do that. I think I did away with BitTorrent.
This one's explanation seems to imply that if the machine is protected by a NAT? firewall it will find a way through but operate slowly.
