Today I learned from one newspaper notice (www.reportazh.com) that the chairman of Gay Albania Society committed suicide.
He was 42 years old. At 1985 his family kicked him out after he came out to them. Since then he lived with his partner somewere in Tirana (capital of Albania) hiding the fact he was gay.
By that time homosexuality was condemned by 10 (ten) years prison. Homosexuality was decriminalized in Albania only in 1995. But the attitude of Albanian society against gays has hardly changed - gays are heavily discriminated, no one employs them, they are maltreated, ridiculed, even killed, imprisoned for "prostitution", because for many of them hustling is
the only way to make a living.
His family refused to organize and even to participate in his funeral - he was buried by a couple of gay friends who even paid the expenses, because the poor guy died in poverty and drowned in debt - no one employed him and he couldn't hustle. The newspaper hints that this might have been the reason
which pushed him to suicide.
His photo can be obtained from http://www.reportazh.com. The text written there is in Albanian language. His name is Bashkim Arapi.
I didn't know him before, but I really fill sad.

That IS horribly tragic and you are right in
feeling sad. Everytime I feel the tiniest bit
sorry for myself for any reason, I think about
walking in someone else's shoes.
And may I please say....You ARE important !!

Simply think, and offer whatever wishes or prayers you choose, to him, those he loved and those who loved him.
The world is even less civilised than those of us privileged to live in what might loosely be termed "socially advanced countries" might realise.
Persecution and execution e=xisist in so much of the world for those who have the mixed fortine tpo be different. Persecution leads to depression, and depression mayoften lead to suicide.
I understand why you have said your name is not important. Your
NAME is not, here. But that you are HERE is important.
