I'm a father. It's the coolest thing I have ever been. I love the role. I see it as an opportunity to be appreciated, the opportunity to influence a person who will be here after I'm gone, so as to gain a sort of immortality, and the opportunity to try to show someone how to have a more happy life. Also it's a great way of getting constructive criticism on ways to improve ourselves. I find it very difficult to express exactly just how much fun it is. Anybody else like it? For you who are not fathers, I'll bet you had one. Not all happy memories on this site for sure, but can you share one good thing he did anyway, since its Father's Day in the USA?
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!

Yes, Macky, I enjoyed (and enjoy) being a father and a grandfather. I think there is nothing we do that is more important than bringing up children well and I have tried and I still try.
And I think it has made me a nicer person than I used to be.

I'm a step-father, not an actual father, but it's cool. I've enjoyed it and enjoy the grandchildren even more.
As for my own father, he managed to stay married to my mother for 20+ years (not sure exactly how many) until the day he died. This was no easy task, especially the final 5-6 when she seemed to completely flip out. Another good thing was that he participated in my life when I was younger. So at least I have rather fond memories of the first twelve years or so. It's only after that, that I seem to have lost touch with him on an emotional level.
I hope all the fathers out there had a wonderful foather's day.

My dad's parents died when he was very young and he had to take care of his sister. So he moved to Southern California and took his sister with him. Both had good times and bad times and when it came time for a family, both did rather well. So I try to have as good a home for my family in honor of my dad and his sister too.
