How do you feel about Dumbledore becoming somewhat of an icon for the gay rights movement?
It's wonderful. I grew up around gay people my entire life, basically, that's possibly why I'm quite camp, and some people think I'm gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome. It's always good to keep them guessing [laughs]. I don't go on any blogs or chats or anything, but my friends are demons for them, and apparently someone said "Daniel Radcliffe is gay. He's got a gay face!" [Laughs] I really don't know what a gay face is. But I think it's wonderful that Dumbledore was outed as gay ... Half of me thinks Jo Rowling just did that to see if she could piss off the right wing, but I'm not sure how true that is. I think she had it planned, I think she always knew he was gay.

Dan gay? I think not. It's just wishful thinking, and I'm just as guilty. He's one of my heartthrobs.

The good thing about the UK today is that it doesn't matter if Radcliffe is or if he isn't. And I'm far more comfortable with Dumbledore than with Streisand!

Isn't it strange how we change (I am using the corporate "we"). Many years ago in this forum we had a "pin-up" contest: we were all invited to send in pictures of our heartthrobs - living or dead - and afterwards we could all vote. One of my "candidates" was Daniel Radcliffe. (Another, I recall was Antinoüs, the lover of the Roman emperor Hadrian.) Poor Radcliffe got nowhere in that poll. (Maybe I offered the wrong picture.) However, I must add that he seems to me to be one of those heartthrobs whom age does not favour.

I think people confuse Potter and Radcliffe. It's like thinking that a soap opera is reality.
Potter has a naive charm, a cuteness, a vulnerability, a loneliness that we want to help with. His looks are unimportant, and, in the book, the kid is by no means good looking.
Radcliffe was a cute enough child and he seems to be a decent enough actor. We know, from Equus, that he has a dick, and he has a reasonably toned body that isn't a muscle factory. In interviews he seems a little gauche, yet charming. Yet Radcliffe isn't a heartthrob. He's an Ok looking guy whose increasing adulthood is removing any last cuteness he had left.
If I had to take him to my bed I'd do it with him in role as Potter. And in film makeup, too. But I'd prefer not to.

I'm with you Nigel. Mr Radcliffe has a timeless beauty about him, that will never cease to delight me. It's all in a certain smile he has. I saw it when he was 11 and it has not changed one iota at 19. I suppose I would still find it attractive were he 80. The first time I saw that smile, I recognized it and it brought a landslide of memories into my consciousness. He has the same smile as the first boy I ever loved. There's just no way I'll ever stop being delighted when I see it.

... Warner Bros. (the producing and releasing studio of the 'Potter' films), in conjunction with the release of the latest flic, have been running a contest (at the very least in Canada, and perhaps the entire World for all I would know), piggy-backed upon the commercials running on all three television networks here. The "winners", again apparently more than one, will each be awarded an appearance in one, or the other, of the forthcoming final Potter films.
What is interesting about the whole thing is the operative word "one", not "last". It would seem that Warner Bros. have figured out a way to continue the franchise without Miss Rowling's participation, and the next film, based on book number seven, could well NOT BE the final one, but simply the lead-in to there being several more Potter films on the future landscape.
I haven't cared enough to quiz Warner on this, but the commercial announcing the contest is still running as of earlier this evening.

I'm rather afraid there will be eight films. They've just finished filming the eternal camping trip in the woods half a mile away from here.
Rather like the books, too long and in need of serious edits.

I got stuck on book 5 - nothing happening combined with adolescent frustration and despair. Perhaps one day I'll get round to finishing the series off. I'd like to.
Going back to a previous post - do we love Dan or Harry? Both in my case. I love Harry for his appearance and Dan for his character.
Hugs
