Just saw a familiar face on TV. He still looked very much like he did at 14, although he must be pushing 40 now. He was the nicest kindest boy you'd ever want to meet.I saw him being led away in handcuffs. He had arranged a meeting on the internet for sex with an officer posing as a 15 year old boy. Yes, his situation is his own fault and he did wrong, but it still makes me feel very sad.

I can't help but feel that entrapment by the authorities is wrong, whatever the so called good intentions behind it are.

Apparently I misheard the TV report about the undercover cop thing. I find that he was reported to the authorities by the parents of the boy, when they found explicit email in the boy's account. The guy has lost his job, benefits, retirement and is in prison pending trial. The newspaper has an area on the internet where people can comment on the story. The cruelty of the comments was enough to bring tears to my eyes. The man is 40, but the last time I spoke with him he was 15 or 16. In my eyes, he's still as much a kid as the kid that he propositioned. I feel very down, both for the kid and for the man who I knew as a kid. I hope that the whole thing was just some kind of misunderstanding.
