I have a shy UK friend who lives somewhere where being gay, while it is normal, may not be socially acceptable. He would love an agony uncle to meet for tea or a beer, genuinely for friendship and a way of talking through his challenges in due course face to face, probably initially by email or an instant messenger program.

I very much doubt that a sexual encounter is what is on his mind.

He is married, more gay than str8, and around my age.

How would you advise him to proceed?

Send him to me, Timmy. But I'll bet he lives in Snowdonia or the Cairngorms or abroad.

He is quite often in your neck of the woods, and I already emailed him to suggest he make contact. The ball is now in his court.
