When they do get around to killing this thing, I hope they make amends to all the military who have been kicked out just before they qualified for retirement annuities.

He said it in order to gain gay support during the elction, then quickly backed off once taking office. I don't believe he is very committed to this issue and will likely wait until his second term so it can't come back to bite him in the next election, if he ever addresses it at all.

Think good thoughts,
e

Hi e

Well in his speech, he recommitted to it. I just can't imagine what's the problem. If congress can decide to shovel hundreds of billions of dollars into banks over a weekend, why can't they bring justice to the treatment of gays in the military? I've read so many cases of just before a soldier meets retirement eligibility, word slips out that the soldier is gay and he/she is dismissed.

Now that's just a travesty. It's obviously wrong. Why in the hell don't they just admit that gay soldiers have been just fine since the times of Thermopylae and Alexander the Great and likely on back to the beginning to time. We have openly gay congressmen but we can't have an openly gay soldier? It defies belief.
