Yes, I am positively out!
It's taken 18 months in the planning but at last there is an article in my old school's alumni magazine where my profile states that I was a frightened gay kid there, and it links, at last, to the page I wanted them to out in the magazine at http://www.trent.karoo.net/oe
They didn't want that page in the magazine, preferring to dwell only on the lighter side of life, but, by dint of persuasion, the editor has succumbed.
Now the interesting news is that this once frightened gay kid has had a partial offer of freelance work in the new year from that article in the magazine. No, not pole dancing! In my regular line as a marketing consultant!
The thing I was once most afraid of, that my alleged school friends would all know, is now a fact. Those people, whoever they are, now know.
The thing is, only the good, decent ones ever mattered. Being gay and out has lost me one person from my christmas card list, my homophobic and viciously stupid cousin Anthony. There is a net saving there of 3 cards a year. Birthday cards from him and wife, and Christmas card. I gain by £5.
I've no idea if any old school colleagues will get in touch over the article. I hope they do, and I don;t mind what they say. The bad comments, if any, I will try to educate. The good comments I will glow from. Either way I benefit
That is my final fear conquered.
I am gay here, in my old school magazine, on my blog, on my own website, on Facebook, on Twitter and on LinkedIn.
