I am well aware that a number of you here do not agree with the positions that I have taken & advocated when referencing the Ultra-Christian Right political movement in a negative fashion in the United States as it affects the greater LGBT community here & elsewhere.
Today however, I found this rather appalling example of 'Christian Theological Doctrine' where it absolutely should never have appeared. The following is an investigative piece by ABCNews Chief Investigative reporter Brian Ross. In my opinion, this is directly correlative to the Anti-Gay campaign except for being another venue.
For those of you who may have doubts as to the far reaching influences of the American Ultra-Right Conservative Christian movement except maybe as graphically illustrated by Tim earlier in revealing and illuminating their collective role in Uganda, here is something else to ponder.
From ABCNews in New York comes this story:
U.S. Military Weapons Inscribed With Secret 'Jesus' Bible Codes
[ Pentagon Supplier for Rifle Sights Says It Has 'Always' Added New Testament References ]
By JOSEPH RHEE, TAHMAN BRADLEY and BRIAN ROSS
Jan. 18, 2010 | Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the United States military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.
The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.
U.S. military rules specifically prohibit the proselytizing of any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan and were drawn up in order to prevent criticism that the U.S. was embarked on a religious "Crusade" in its war against al Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents.
One of the citations on the gun sights, 2COR4:6, is an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
Other references include citations from the books of Revelation, Matthew and John dealing with Jesus as "the light of the world." John 8:12, referred to on the gun sights as JN8:12, reads, "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

This need some Christian sects have to 'witness' for Jesus drives me crazy, this is just another example. You can't drive anywhere in the southern US without seeing signs on fence posts and telephone poles with 'John 8:12' or some such message.
Words and signs like that are pollution, vandalism, litter...and they have laws and fines for that, but they won't be applied. Attempting to remove Jesus and bible messages from public view is a waste of time, most of them go up in the middle of the night so the perpitrator knows it's a crime.
Christian thought has no attraction to me, I'm gay, they don't want me and I certainly don't want them. The whole God thing violates my sense of what is real. Now if we worshiped nature like our ancestors that would make sense to me. An image of Mother Nature ruling the planet makes good sense. As for the universe, face it, we are nothing, folks...just a speck of dirt that happens to be alive.
Christians have no arguement with me, I ignore them when I can. Christian, Muslum, Jew, Athiest...we're all the same. We're born the same and will die the same, everything in between is what we make of it. I wouldn't wait for all the manna in heaven, or count on enjoying virgins in the afterlife, that's all BS. Life is all we have, and even the smallest bacteria knows that.
Printing religious messages on weapons of death seems the ultimate ironic folly, about what I would expect from a religion that boasts Pat Robertson as a respected spokeperson.

And now we have this from the Associated Press wire service:
"Biblical citations inscribed on U.S.-manufactured weapon sights used by New Zealand's troops in Afghanistan will be removed because they are inappropriate and could stoke religious tensions, New Zealand said Thursday."
Someone is paying attention to the reality of the world...about time!

Actually, a great part of the US is deeply conservative christian in viewpoint. I've seen many plain billboards along interstate highways in Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, Indiana, Arkansas and a few other states which simply have "Jesus" for all to read. These billboards just reduce the great quality of the man to a commodity for profit.

Oh, but don't you realize that having scriptures there will assure that the person doing murder (that is what the military does!) will go to heaven for those murders. Religion has always worked that way.
And it does not matter to them what God really wants if some religion can concoct their own methods of disposing of the opposition.
