I read the story, Max. I wonder just how many youths lied about their ages in order to fight in the war. Maybe back then, the romantic idea of fighting in a war against tyranny was too great a tempt for underaged boys.

My uncle, Reginald Showan, for one, Raymundo. I believe he lied about his age to go too.
In those days patriotism was unquestioned and bopys' story books were full of heroism and nothing was ever said about death. And the failure of that attitude was the way the generals in the first world war just didn't try to minimise casualties.
