World Net Daily Columnist: Homosexuals Should Be Put To Death
World Net Daily columnist Molotov Mitchell says that Uganda has it right, the Bible clearly calls for homosexuals to put to death. If gay Ugandans don't like that, they can just leave. And that America's Founding Fathers had it right too, because was a death penalty for gays in the original colonies. Mitchell says that by being willing to kill homosexuals, Ugandans are now "more American that Americans" and he closes by quoting Martin Luther King: "The moral arm of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice."
Mitchell's ranting is yet another another example of the recent ramping up of violently anti-gay rhetoric from the Christianist right. The American Family Association thinks gays should all be imprisoned and forcibly subjected to "reparative therapy." The Family Research Council says that gays are inherent rapists who can't be trusted around soldiers. Mission America says that protecting gay kids from beatings in school is a fascist idea. And now a columnist from the most widely read Christian site in the nation is calling for us to be put to death.

Hell's bell's, homosexuality has been around since time began and "our" presence within society has not been the stuff that revolutions are truly made of. Granted that we in the New Millennium, on the one hand do consider that breakthroughs in the arena of Worldwide Human Rights in general, and with regard to the LBGT Community in particular, as being somewhat revolutionary, on the other hand this has simply been evolutionary, and well that it should have been, and not before its' time either, and having likely taken far too long to have evolved at that.
Just what is it that The Fundamentalists, regardless of their faith, are so afraid of?
----------
To digress for a moment, let me clarify:
Having three weeks ago survived another stroke, this time relatively unscathed, I know that my time in 'this veil of tears' is rapidly coming to an end. I neither welcome, nor fear this; but, I do have reservations about the nature of the World that I will likely leave behind.
I have been fortunate, no let me make that far stronger and say blessed, to have been born in a time, and a place, where Society at large has been widely tolerate of the Human Condition with all its' foibles.
It has been far from perfect too. Canada in the late 1950's and early 1960's appeared to be one of the last remaining bastions of a predominately White and Christian-based environment, with another being Australia. Then came sweeping change, a reality check as it were, and Canadians were dragged kicking and screaming into a New World; a World none of the olde guard wanted, and tried, vociferously to protect. We had entered the decidedly uncertain realm of "Multiculturalism", fraught with perils unheard of, let alone perceived. Some 40-years later, Canadians now look back upon those turbulent times and wonder what all the hue and cry had been all about; but we forget that back in the day, the Canadian demographic looked something like this, and I'm culling from memory here, but would not be far off the mark:
This change occurred out of necessity, not out of any Canadian sense of
righteousness; our society had largely stagnated. It was dying, and looking at the writing on the wall, our Politicians wisely chose societal integration, rather than isolation, and enacted policies, reinforced through widespread education, that led to the evolution of what would become termed our "New Society", an evolution that continues to this day, and will continue long after I, and the others remaining of the generations before me, and those of mine, have departed.
A comparison of the numbers show that not much changed by way of sexuality; but Lord knows, the landscape had sure changed in in damned near everything else; and until 10-years ago or so, as a body, Canadians were not happy about it; but along with the sweeping alteration in the ethnic and religious face of Canadian Society, came radical new concepts of what was now being perceived as right as opposed to wrong. Women for the first time, had truly become equal partners in the Human Condition; Men having, at long last, lost their hierarchical hold, and Dominion, over the direction our society would continue to evolve; spousal abuse in particular, and abuse (regardless of its nature) in general, becoming anathema within the moral fabric of who were were becoming. Racial and Religious intolerance, whilst not a thing of the past, has largely been dissipated, and is not just frowned upon by so called "polite" society, but by all; with complete separation of Church and State now a de facto reality and not just lip-service paid to egalitarians; and within the next generation racial and religious discrimination will likely have disappeared entirely. So too with age, gender and sexuality identification; each concept now going by way of the dinosaur, reinforced where necessary by Law, but more appropriately through education.
The Australian landscape has been wrought by change as well; perhaps not quite as dramatically as that within Canada; but, too this will come to pass. It has become an economic necessity for both nations, and for the World in general.
I have often spoken here of my childhood, and teen-aged years, and the relative ease with which I came to terms with the "who" of who I am, and the "what" of what I might be capable of becoming. Let it suffice to further say that I was allowed, and encouraged, to become the very best that I could be, regardless of what the might morph into being.
----------
I, in the preamble above, say "Blessed", and truly blessed I have been, to have lived within a society where I have never feared for my personal safety or my life, either because I am homosexual, or because of my race or religion; nor, have I ever (to the best of my knowledge) been actively discriminated against because of my sexuality, my marital status, or my age.
It's a sad indictment that this cannot be said of the majority of the Human species, and my certain knowledge that there of those even amongst us here at A Place Of Safety that cannot ever say the same of themselves.
Like Canada more than 40-years ago, it is time that the World Community, and all of the individual factions within, whether they be religious or ethnic, political, gender or sexual in nature 'come to Jesus' as it were and suffer through a global reality check, and grow up.
In the World I would like to see I leave behind there is no place for the likes of those that would deprive anyone of their inalienable right to exist and to be the very best that they can be, whatever that might be, and regardless of who they might 'turn out' to be.
I'm increasingly becoming disenfranchised with all organized religion, and with Christianity specifically; and I have come to loathe all that Christian Fundamentalism represents, and that of its' followers; and frankly with the newest generation of Politicians who pander to them.
