What Happened to Cabin Boy?
I know he said that he was going to his friend Mitch's for Seder and all that and that he would not be online for a couple of days but now I'm concerned for him. Anyone have any ideas?

... it is only been three-days since his special evening out, and he's now right smack in the middle of Good Friday and Easter week-end.

I'm sure he'll be back, and will want to regale us all with a minute-by-minute and blow-by-blow description of all that has transpired since late last week.

In the interim, you want dialogue, consider opening a new topic, maybe about something you're writing, or a hobby you are enthusiastic about. You never know, you just might strike a cord with some other Member here who shares your interest, and you'll be in like flint.

Take me for example, and this is by no means an invitation (for anyone here) to open a discussion about this; but, I collect Fragrance "Replica" Miniatures, having inherited the collection my mother started as a young girl in the 1930's. The collection numbers well over 8,000 examples spanning some 100-years of the fragrance industry, and I'm told the collection is likely amongst the largest in the World, perhaps second only to that of a Parisienne lady, now in her late 90's, who had been a Stewardess with Air France from it's inception, and through her travels amassed a collection even larger than my mother had during her own lifetime. Upon my death, the collection will find its' home at either The Art Gallery of Ontario or The Royal Ontario Museum. My children will decide which, this being probably all that I have of any enduring value after a lifetime of lassitude, self-indulgence and reprobation.

I had dental surgery today and the pain is rather painful to say the least.

Did you know that civet is a chemical that is squeezed from the anal glands of cats and added to perfumes?
Yes I did Jordan, but not just any cat ...  [message #61775 is a reply to message #61772] Fri, 02 April 2010 20:20 Go to previous messageGo to next message

... and more specifically from subfamily "Viverrinae", chiefly of southern Asia and Africa, having a coarse-haired, spotted coat, rounded ears, and a narrow muzzle.

"Civet" the matériel is a yellowish, unctuous substance with a strong musklike odor, obtained from a pouch in the genital region of civets and used in perfumery; and whilst seldom used today had found quite a following 50-years, or more ago, as a substitute for "musk" in oil form as derived from the deer by the same name which had become very expensive.

Jovan, Inc., a then fledgling Chicago start-up (now owned by Smith-Kline-Beecham, the "Nivea" people, amongst others) was likely the first to widely incorporate "civet" as a substitute for "musk" when it launched in the very early 70's its' ubiquitous "Jovan Musk Oil" fragrance for Women (and later Men), and in doing so set an entire generation of North American youngsters on its' collective ear; something that had only previously accomplished by San Francisco's own "Spiritual Sky" when it launched its' "Patchouli Oil" some 15-years earlier.

And, I commiserate with you on your dental anguish. I do remember the discomfort I felt going to the Dentist (and the pain even after the most routine work), although I've not experienced much of it since I had all my teeth removed resulting from an emergence of cancer in my lower jaw when I was 15-years old, and have lived with dentures most of my life.

... wanna try another?

Fragrance is a very "personal" thing; despite my having had access to thousands of samples of men's perfume over the years, I continue to this day to wear only one (and with age only very infrequently at that); this being a scent I experienced for the very first time because I was given a miniature bottle of it by my cousin Andy (my father's sister's only child) when I was going through puberty and discovering all sorts of new things, with odours and smell being amongst them.

The fragrance is known as "Agua Lavanda" manufactured by Antonio Puig, S. A., of Barcelona, long discontinued World-wide excepting in two markets in South America and "me" in Canada. Through arrangements made with John AuClair, then owner (now deceased) of Toiletries Euopa, and with Puig, I continue to receive a suitable supply of their original signature scent.

For more than 30-years, friends, and associates, have known that should they ever encounter its' aroma in a bar or restaurant or whatever, here in Toronto, it's an absolute certainty that I preceded them there at some point earlier, and might even still be around somewhere.

Conair, Inc., of New York City, distributes Puig's products in the U.S.A., notably Quorum For Men which replaced Agua Lavanda some 25-years or more ago.

Do you have a favourite, and why?

I learned about civet poop coffee by watching the movie "Bucket List". The theme of the movie was a platonic love that developed between two elderly dying men. I liked the movie.

I will never try the coffee. Give me any old coffee, some Hershey's cocoa some vanilla extract and a bit of almond extract, and I can make the worlds best coffee. I don't need no stinkin' cat poop.

Who knew?

And to think that I was given to try, some months back, a case of whole-bean coffee (through the Foodbank where I volunteer several times a month) from the very same Vietnamese company, the "Trung Nguyen Coffee Company", who apparently are the developers of a process that generates a synthetic variation of the coffee you speak of. Their synthetically generated "Civet Coffee" product (and not the one I got a case of) is known by the trade name "Legendee".

Dark-brown coloured transparent glass bottle, with a sort of ass-shape to it and a knob-like cap?

I'm going strictly on memory here; but, let's see where it goes. Developed by the Orlane Group of Paris France (now owned by Revlon Julier, S. A., after the breakup of Norton Simon, Inc, after Simon's death, mentioned below) in the very early 1970's, with bottle design (shared by it's sister brand 1-12) I believe by an female Italian, although I could be wrong about the designer (I'll look it up if you're interested); the fragrance's top-note is a spicy mix of warm woods on a base of musk and leather.

The miniature "Replica" fragrance bottle is featured element in one of the more poignant scenes of Mark Christopher's 1995 Gay-themed Short-filmed subject entitled "Alkali, Iowa" [which is Part 2 of 4 from Strand Releasing's BOYS LIFE 2 gay-themed short film anthology, UPC 014381568721].

The Orlane Group was originally absorbed by Norton Simon Inc., (famous for the Museum in Los Angeles, and for its' founders' philanthropic endeavours, and for their having launched Pierre Cardin's first merchandising endeavour in the mid-1960's allowing him to successfully leave the House of Dior and establish his own Atalier) just prior designer Halston's death from AIDS. Halston is perhaps most noteworthy as a designer for having created the "Pill-box Hat" popularized by Jacqueline Kennedy during her White House years.

I am here. We had a great time at the seder and I stayed at Mitch's for Monday night and also Tuesday night, and it was totally awesome. I have been working on a small project and you can see the results here at http://rickthecabinboy.wordpress.com/
So I was with Mitch until Wednesday afternoon and then Thursday my grandparents flew in from Wisconsin and they will be here for two weeks. Then dad decided to buy the boat after haggling with the agent. Life has been busy.
Mitch comes to our house Saturday afternoon and he will stay until Monday afternoon.
Sorry about not being on IM lately. Read all the cool things that have been happening and you will understand why.

Do people really rub cat gland secretions on themselves? You know those civits rub their asses against things to leave a trail and to mark their territory right? So if you wear perfume with a civit ass smell maybe you will get attacked and molested my civits.

Life is awesome.

But how do you think the civits feel when they get snatched up and things get stuck up their asses and they get their glands violated? How do you think they feel then? How do you think they explain to their parents how their ass fur got all matted and nasty from things being stuck up their asses? I bet they feel cheap and have low self esteem.
Well, LOL, I did assure Jordan that you would be back ...  [message #61788 is a reply to message #61787] Sat, 03 April 2010 04:30 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Glad to hear you had such a good time.

I couldn't, nor can anyone else, IM you at MSN because your profile doesn't have an MSN User-name listed; in truth, the only one appears to be at AIM, and some dude (shown as being connected through "Mobile Texting") at that one tells me I've got the wrong number.

Figured I st the very least try, as you seemed to really, really, want to talk with someone.

Hopefully you've been able to reach "Cabinboy".

That turned out better than you could have even imagined! I'm glad you're remembering that staying friends is the most important part. Have you notice how gay/straight/Bi is wholly irrelevant?
