Not that the dude who climbed Mt. Everest was not a hero, but this guy did something that I can relate to. He was older than my father and he does not remember this guy. I called my grandfather and he doesn't remember him either but then grandad is not a sailor.

I found this book in a used bookstore and this man has written a better account of it than I could. So here is the link.

I don't remember him at all. Maybe he never made the news here in the UK. 1965 was the year I learnt to sail, so I imagine I would have noticed him. He sounds pretty amazing.

Thank you for sharing that, Cabin Boy.

I don't recall Robin Graham's voyage either, and I was the same age that year. The media is much more attentive to such things now, a shame really, it would have been great fun to follow his expedition at the time.

So just because you live on the water don't be getting any ideas ;-D

I had interviewed this kid a few months back as well as his sister Abby who had to unfortunately abandon her efforts near Cape Town to circumnavigate the globe due to equipment malfunctions recently.

These 2 kids are amazing and the fact that Zac left at 16, came back at 17, and is such a level headed teen ought to serve as inspiration for alot of today's kids who need heroes.

Whoa shit, naughty, naughty! You were not supposed to post pictures only links. But anyway yes Zac is a cool guy and a hero, but for me the older guy is a greater hero. He did his voyaging without GPS and all the electronics. He did it with sextant and slide rule and that is very difficult.

I wrote to Zac because I want to know where he earned enough money working part time summer jobs to be able to afford his own boat by the age of 16. Especially in Southern California where Mexicans have all those kinds of jobs.

He is cute too. Cool

OK let the Memorial Day weekend begin! Let there be golfing and sailing and swimming and cook-outs and biking and quiet moments in bedrooms with Mitch. It is still just jacking off so far and rubbing on top of each other and making out but it is awesome. ::-)
