This is not some tinpot cult, this is one of the main opponents of gay equality in the USA at least.

Not that long ago it stated that blacks were second class human beings, just because of the colour of their skin. Odd, is it not, that Jesus Christ, should he have existed, could well have had very dark skin indeed.

Bigotry and ignorance abound.

Compare and contrast that with http://keshetrabbis.org as just one example.

A well written blog, an unfortunate subject.

I often ask myself, what is it about America that causes such ignorance to flourish? I certainly believe the LDS cult to be a highwater mark in ignorant thought. There is no room for reasonable discussion with LDS members, been there, tried that. It makes me cringe that our Constitution protects their speech rights and the rights of others who espouse hatred.

Okay, I'm going to use a nasty word here, cover your eyes. Gay people have become the new niggers in America. I say that because it seems as a culture we cannot exist without someone to hate. The Red Menace in Russia, the ragheaded Arabs of the Middle East, Saddam, North Korea, The Taliban. If we didn't have these people to hate I'm sure we would invent some.

Now back to the LDS. If that isn't a church invented out of spare parts I don't know what is. Okay, maybe Scientology ranks up there as well, but they have alien origins and see flying saucers. The LDS starts with Joseph Smith, an alias if I ever heard one. Angels and flying horses, Jesus in America, what other strange beliefs can any one cult incorporate?

But you know, I would tolerate their brand of insanity if only they would leave the gay issue alone. The black population is still struggling with the dregs of hateful racist thought in America. Is it any wonder that "fag" has replaced the word "nigger" in our hate speech?

We need someone new to hate in this country before the gay population will be left alone. Hating Mexicans won't work, they will soon outnumber the white population. I have a suggestion for all the haters, religious and otherwise. An old word that's been around a long time and doesn't get much use these days. Can't everyone just say "peace?"

Smile

I don't think any of the regular posters here who "espouse" religion would dream of claiming that it was always good !

Like most powerful social forces, it has the capability of being used for both good and evil, and the acts it inspires may likewise be either enlightened or oppressive.

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" has always seemed a pretty reliable touchstone to me.

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. ... Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night devoid of stars." Martin Luther King

Not all religion is good, as demonstrated by this story. And not all good religion is always good. Those who state so are using an absolute to describe something that cannot be an absolute. An apple tree can't yield figs, but it can, with sun and clean water and air and healthy earth, give healthy apples. When a religion is poisoned by unhealthy men, it produces unhealthy fruit.
