Yet another example of the madness sweeping the fabric of American culture, and all too likely to be unleashed elsewhere if those wishing to impose their agenda on others gets their way.

From this evening, again at netscape.aol.com:

'I [Heart] Boobies' Bracelets Cause Stir in High Schools

http://www.aolnews.com/article/i-heart-boobies-bracelets-cause-stir-in-schools/19639177?icid=main|netscape|dl1|sec3_lnk2|171401

What disturbs me most about incidents like this, and the fervent who react strongly about them, is that it fails to take in to account the daily onslaught of images, campaigns and messages that as little as ten-years ago could never, ever, have made it into mainstream media at all.

Simply but one more example of a well-intended awareness programme hijacked at the alter of another's skewed moral attitude. Rather than reinforce and educate about the true (and intended) purpose of these bracelets, when issues and questions arose, the School Boards once again kowtow to the morally repressed and impotent; but, still and all nightly we are subjected to condom manufacturers all but rolling the sheath down an erect penis in living-rooms nationwide, companies extolling the benefits of feminine hygiene sprays, deodorants and douches in lieu of daily bathing practices, not to forget, my all-time favourite "Bob" regaling us with his tales about the virtues of "natural male enhancement"; and so many others, many of which I'm certain have entertained and amused us, whereas more still have made us simply want to throw up.

Is this nonsense ever going to come to an end? Apparently not.

Better than 'Bob' for the yanks would be the word 'dick'! They missed a trick there!

I'm in two minds over this. I half support the idea that it is not wholly school appropriate, but I also subscribe to http://tinyurl.com/2e238zf

I have never considered a word, per se, to be offensive. I consider the context in which it is used to be capable of giving offence.

What I see is that the school has blown this, something simple, out of all proportion and caused its own problem.

Hmm. that was a ramble of low erudition. I blame tramadol.

Isn't it wonderful how a society such as ours displays such an overwhelming amount of nonsense with the written word.

America is the land of clever sound bites displayed on television, cute little bumper stickers with messages and product commericals in advertising no one understands.

I blame it on the flag. Yes, the red, white and blue thingy that is used everwhere. Wave a flag and everyone thinks you are involved in some debate, some great cause to support something. You don't need to actually do anything just wave a flag, tie a ribbon around something, wear a bracelet or a tee shirt. Its a wonder any problems get solved, we are so busy telling everyone how concerned we are.

I am never suprised about the inane thoughts expressed by this mindless messaging. This is the land of Pet Rocks. That did nothing for the owner except prove that capitalism is the selling of useless items to the absurdly willing dupes we seem to have become.

So boobies on bracelets, why not? I recall a time in my youth when a woman's bra could not be shown on a model, they had to float in the air on television commercials, a ghostly apparition at best to please the censors. Now we have MTV and it all hangs out there. The bras one sees in music videos are inconsequential bits of fluff.

Why should adults complain about boobie bracelets when they allow such pornographic images on television? No one wants to stop the message mongering. I mean tomorrow it might be my message on a bracelet and we do have that First Ammendment to consider. We are doomed to read trash for the rest of our lives, might as well start them young :-/
