Good find, J.J. that was a good read.
I may find Christianity oppressive in the extreme, but that is my feeling, my way of life. It is refreshing to find someone who thinks of himself as a "real Christian."
The Jesus cult toiling away in American society is destructive of the origial teachings. Since Jesus never wrote a word on his own behalf we rely on the teachings of others. The message has become so warped over the centuries by the special interest groups who attempt to dominate those teachings I can have no personal faith in their value.
And then there is "sin." What is sin really? Should I accept the Christian view of sin? What about nature's view of sin? I am not about to worry what some guy in the Vatican says is sinful, he doesn't lead by example. We are "all sinful" and need to be "saved." Oh? Saved for what reason? To put money on the pockets of those who would sell me salvation?
I think I am a little more realistic than those following some kind of Wiki-religion filled with desparities and inaccurate quotes. Jesus led an interesting life even if someone edited out the middle years, I always wondered why. As the story is told he went from adolescence straight to thiry-something. Maybe he spent the middle years studying at the university and hanging out in gay bars. It could be true, find me evidence to refute that.
Age appears to be best in four things; old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read. (Sir Francis Bacon 1561-1626)

I'm hostile to organized religion in general, but one thing I do believe is: Jesus would see little evidence of his teachings today. I imagine he would have ceased recognizing Christianity from the time it was basically hijacked by the Apostle Paul, and beyond a doubt he would find little of any worth by the time Christianity was mongrelized by Constantine out of political expediency.
So I'm no way inclined to hurl Bible verses to prove or disprove anything, but: http://www.jesusmcc.org/resource/hb.html
12 to 30 is a fairly long time, though. I'm just saying...
