I know...here I go reposting something from Brody's Blog but upon reading this I had to scream with joy:

http://brodylevesque.blogspot.com/2011/01/brodys-notes-15-year-old-arizona-lgbtq.html

To quote something I read years ago (and maybe one of you can find me the attribution) "All it takes is one valiant warrior to bring down an evil king and his wicked court." (Now that I think of it I hope is isn't from Conan the Barbarian)

Caleb Laeiski may turn out to be that warrior. For too long gay youth has been bullied in our schools and Caleb's direct approach is no different than the first gay couple who stood up for gay marriage and had laws changed.

For now Caleb seems to agree that the insertion of stricter langauge in school policy will serve his purpose. But across the nation the parents of gay children are feeling the pain of bullying. Not only was 2010 a sad year of multiple suicides, but the bullying continues.

As several gay support groups, parents and gay children seek relief in the court system the school districts will begin to feel the financial pressure. Nothing hits a school administrator harder than losing a million dollar lawsuit....I hope it happens a hundred times all across the nation.

Perhaps Caleb will inspire the movement. Smile

"I know...here I go reposting something from Brody's Blog but..." Okay, WHY is that sounding as though I'm a pariah, taboo, or distasteful?
I should point out Chris, that as I am a syndicated freelance journalist and appear elsewhere not only in the blogosphere I really don't take issue with folks reposting in part/whole or quoting my work product.

Any work that is attributable to me vis a vis my byline is Creative Commons Licenced and therefore is share and share alike with attribution. This also applies to my associate Mark Singer. Now, my contributor's work is protected under the provisions of the 1998/2005 DMA Law as amended and U. S. Copyright provisions. [The work product is quotable insofar as "the fair use provisions" of those laws unless previous permission has been obtained.]

It should not matter in any event where the source material comes from as far as making it available here. What is by far much more important is that the material is made available for greater exposure.

Activism especially by this new generation has proven to be critical in numerous areas that affect the greater queer community in areas of equality, healthcare, education, and the list goes on.

The days of hiding in the closet- for some- are no gone, evaporated in the light of the fact that as more heteronormal folk come to realise that we are exactly like them and that our sexuality is no more than a variant of the human condition, such as hair colour, the closer we shall get to parity and equality.

Young people like Caleb are leading the way.

Now, I have no clue why quoting from my website would be offensive and by the way its no longer "Brody's Blog." It has ceased to be an individual effort- in fact, that has been true for nearly a year now. It is corporate, BL Freelance LLC owns it, and I am proud to say that kudos needs to be afforded to the staff and especially the contributors for their outstanding efforts and work product. [ Which in full disclosure & truthfulness needs to list iomfats owner, Timmy as well as iomfats regular Desdownunder, whose columns also appear at QueerToday.com. Here's a public nod and thanks from myself and staff to them]

Someone needs a little stress relief, Mr. Levesque. Perhaps you have recently been tortured by too many Tea Partiers, and we both know it isn't going to get any easier in Washington. But I am in your side, I meant no offense.

Perhaps I am guilty of not providing the proper attribution to the articles you post on your website or the LLC status of BL Freelance. But I think of it as Brody's Blog, I call it that, I tell my friends that's what it is.

Perhaps I also assume that most of the folks on the forum read your articles...they really should, I do every day. You accumulate good material from so many sources it would be hard to find a better news source for current gay issues.

But I also watch the news on NBC and hardly give a thought to seeing it as anything but NBC. Even though they would be happy if we all remembered they are NBC News, A Division of NBC Universal, a subsidiary of General Electric Corporation (the mega giant corporate wonks who make billions in the defense industry and suck on the taxpayers tit 24/7)

I should also say you have amassed quite a team of players, many of whom do not pull their punches when dealing with inequity in our society. They certainly deserve credit even though the page is titled Brody's Notes & Scribbles.

Perhaps you or one of your contributors could interview Caleb, I would be interested to see what kind of a person he is and how well rounded his home school program has become. He is definitely on my gay heroes list and will bear watching.

Thanks Chris & no offence taken... besides, Tim's already zinged me.
I am very proud of the staff & contributors and as you pointed out, they do not pull any punches.

We are trying very hard to bring a quality product to our readership which now amazingly is near 50K plus hits a day and rapidly climbing. [Add in our syndication numbers and its very good!]I couldn't be more pleased as we're only going to be officially 2 years old in April.

Darryl, the Editor-In-Chief at Phoenix, Arizona based LGBTQNation and I have discussed doing a sit down with young Caleb as he's got a wonderful back-story to his tale. We hope that we'll be able to corral young Caleb very soon.

Thanks again Chris and yes, this past week has been a trail... just yesterday I was sitting in the visitor's gallery of the U. S. House, idly watching the spectacle below of the 'reading' of the U. S. Constitution when this woman stood up and started shouting; "except Obama, praise Jesus, and a ton of other drivel before the Capitol Police managed to drag her out. (Literally)She actually kept shouting the whole way. Turns out that she's the same nutjob that spends ALOT of time outside the North fence of the White House wearing all white, and I kid you not, a pair of angel wings proclaiming that the President is part of the so-called New World Order.

AND then there are the "elected" ones...... I gotta tell ya Chris, I've been a political reporter for nearly 33 years and even I have got to say, this town has really lost the bloody plot this time.
Oh and way too many of them look like........
Like you Chris I followed this story first at Brody's Blog.  [message #65220 is a reply to message #65201] Wed, 12 January 2011 14:29 Go to previous message

I'm heartened to note that this story apparently has made it into rotation at netscape.aol.com in their summary of current news stories, albiet a week late (I'm supposing better that than not at all) and I see it featured at msnbc.com and msn.com as well.

Gay Teen Plans to Sue Schools if They Don't Prevent Bullying:

Hopefully the wider exposure will prompt people to support his cause, which in turn will support the same cause of children in school districts throughout all of America.
