I will try to keep politics out of this but that is really impossible for me with only 5 days before the election. Also, please note: I will have no life for the next 5 days, and will try to get online in the early morning before work. But I will be working very late almost every night till November 5th.

Republicans by and large hate us, I have seen this first hand in race baiting and homophobia used in campaigns against all four candidates that I work for. Those who call themselves gay rebublicans .... two things: obviously confused (economic policies benefit those making in excess of $2,750,000.00 a year disproportionately) and lack of social conscience: If you are that concerned about your wallet (and you make that much), then you are just plain greedy, if you don't make that much, try a little economic research. study some trends ..... some go all the way back to Nixon. I would love to go on but that would take a huge thread ..... anyone for a debate?

Enough of that, as for me:
Some of you may remember the Toyota thread I posted back in July, here is an update:
Four lawsuits were filed, against my old boss, mine being one. The rumor is that the two suits with the least ...... substantial harrasement .... will be settled out of court. I am quite sure Toyota knows that they are somewhat liable for the harrassement sinc it was reported to management and they chose not to act, but to actually support the harrasement activity and fire all those who reported it, and friends of theirs. Mine is not one of those two that they will fight.
I am sure the lawyers are saying to fight mine because in the state I am from it is expressly legal to fire someone just because they are gay. It is also OK to harrass someone who is gay short of actually molesting them physically. These things are not a crime here, heck they are not even outside the guidlines of conduct legally. Sad, but true.
I will coninue to fight mine anyway, and may bring it into the public forum soon.
I have made an initial offer to Toyota that includes my bosses dismissal and some money, I am willing to negotiate about the money. All four suits included that as part of the deal.
Since the lawyers got involved, an internal investigation was launched by Toyota a few weeks ago while he was on a forced vacation. Two days after he returned he was moved to a position where he has no one "under him" anymore.
Two of us, of the four, have recieved death threats. Because he is a "gun nut" and shoots his gun in competition whenever he takes a vacation, I take these threats somewhat seriously. But I will not live in fear.
I have now been out of work since July 12th, and with George Bush's economy (another bit of politics ... can't help it) prospects are somewhat bleak. I am still a few months from loosing my home, so with luck, I will find something between now and then. I am banned from any jobs in Toyota affiliated companies (yes that is illegal). Not much I can do about it though.
If I do happen to become homeless, I am sure it won't come to that, I will see you all a bit less for a short while, but ******in my best Arnold impersonation "I'll be back" *****
I will let you know what happens unless I am forbid by agreement.

Living as you do in a State of the Union that affords none of the now considered to be typical and widely accepted protections for minorities within society (which ususally does include "sexual" preference) it is imperative that you continue to put pressure on those with the power, and capability to affect change.
My first response to your plight, was "Why would you continue to reside in a place that fosters, and harbours this kind of behaviour", attitudes, and actions such as you yourself are experiencing, and such as you have alluded to in other threads, as it has affected others.
I now know, as I've come to understand you better , that you could no more move and ignore their intransigence, than "pigs could fly", and frankly I wouldn't like you very much of you had, or do. You have taken a stand, and we must all, everywhere applaud that position.
I'm appalled to think that in this, the year 2002 of our Lord, that Michigan, not in the least forgetting the some 20 other States as well who don't either, has so little for respect for Human Rights as to afford so little basic protection of its' citizenry from the renewed bigotry and baser elements found in the human condition.
