I have a "friend" who hangs his hat here exclusively - no where else mind you, just here - calling A Place of Safety his home, something that never seemed quite possible for me, but has been very much so for him, and a great comfort too.

I thank you, one and all, for having taken him into your house, sheltering and nurturing him, helping him to become the man it has been ordained that he become.

A kinder, gentler, soul than my friend, you'll not likely ever find again. He has warmth and compassion that's capable of sustaining us all; both, in this, the here and now, and throughout eternity.

His forthright, open, and honest manner, encompasses all he should brush up against, imbuing each with a renewed dignity of purpose, and yes something akin to "love", leaving everyone just a little bit better for having had that contact.

He'll not likely ever be mine; he apparently loves another; but,
I say this especially to him. He deserves to be loved and to have his love returned in an equal, or fuller, measure than his own.

It is my first "Christmas Wish", that my friend is able to find someone capable of loving him as he does them, and that his New Year will be blessed with a harvest of happiness, contentment and fulfilment.

To everyone else here, the visible community, and those in the shadows, I say Christmas time, amongst the "Christian" world is celebrated as a gathering of family and friends, a community of sharing, trust, and love.

This spirit need not be exclusively "Christian" in context or flavour, nor need it apply solely to this time of the year. Let all of you, regardless of your individual background, and circumstance make this spirit your own, and carry it forth with you each and everyday throughout the coming year.

Should you choose to do so, then the world will be once again populated with a great more humankind, all much like my "friend.

I can't think of a better collective "Christmas Wish" than that to be my second.
