He was a troubled man, damaged by being dubbed "The Most Beautiful Boy in the World" in order to sell Death in Venice, an otherwise dreary film. Björn Andrésen tells us more about him.

He was a good looking lad, better in the movie makeup than without it, but that ought not to have defined him. One might argue that he ought not to have let that define him, but one may also say he was very likely to have been badly advised.

He toured Japan around the time that Anime emerged into prominence, and his looks inspired more than one artist.
