In the UK we have The Sexual Offences Act 2003 which succeeds in criminalising children for doing childish things. A trial was just brought to prosecute two small boys for allegedly raping a small girl. Even before today's collapse of the trial it was obvious that bringing the prosecution was unlikely to be in the public interest, and that it was ridiculous to put the alleged victim and the alleged rapists through the trauma of a trial.

Today we see this: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article7125357.ece

They had been playing doctors and nurses!

Ah Timmy, I do believe that George Orwell would have felt vindicated. Control of the masses begins with unjustified persecution. Kids must adhere to the control of adults, that's what I see here. Stupid adults. In the US it's rare to see children outside playing unnless they are surrounded by adults, the child molester threat is the excuse, they lurk behind every bush.

In this culture of fear when do children have the chance to play out their fantasies, when do they get to drop their pants and check out the competition? The fear has become big business, with dozens of websites and books, all for a price, offering rules and advice. It doesn't take into consideration that these children are probably smarter than their parents.

It brings to mind the parents in the United States who have been arrested for child abuse after taking a cute photo of their baby playing naked in the bathtub. The cry of child pornography rings out, the state descends like a vulture and tears apart a family. The horror is that it still happens.

Boys curious about other boys are labeled homosexual, if there is a girl involved then it becomes rape. How irrational. Methinks these prosecutors are in a hurry to justify their jobs, make headlines, and all in this day of terrorism. It's absurd. And in this case the terrorists are those in the judicial system who have messed up the lives of these poor children and their families. But who prosecutes the prosecutors, who investigates their crime?

Methinks some of the over wrought prosecutors were getting their jollies through these naughty, naked, sexual children. At the moment, I have no idea on how to prosecute the prosecutors. Sorry about that.

And the little boys have been found guilty.

While we cannot know all the facts, I can see sufficient to make a judgment that this prosecution was not in the public interest

From what I've read there is no doubt in my mind that the boys should be in trouble. They seemed to use trickery and blackmail, and the acts seemed against the girl's will. But to be registered Sex Offenders, convicted of attempted rape of a minor.

That seems to be going too far. As you say, a prosecution does not seem in the public interest. Counselling, for the parents and children involved, does.

A good old fashioned telling off and bed with no supper would have done the trick here.
