This particular box of magic tricks was all the rage during the early 1950's.  My mother had to have been aware of it's existence when nicknaming me in the late 1960's; although it is my understanding she based her choice in soubriquet, not on this at all, but rather a celebrated personality from the 1930's who seems be quite the media darling in the prohibition era speak-easy's of the day, routinely getting his mug snaped being hauled away in handcuffs making the front pages of morning daily's.
