It was a beeutiful day today. As I was walking along making "lit drops" (it's a term for political literature dropped at each house a few days before the residents are contacted by the candidate or a representative) and I came up to a house just as a small truck pulled up outside. As I made my way back down the driveway he was walking up. I said to this unkknown but very good looking guy "Nice truck". And the way he blushed in such a shy way made me smile for the rest of the whole block.
Anyway that was just one from today.
Peace and trees, (gosh I really like that Andy)

At lunchtime, I went to the loops with some friends and we watched some little kids trying to use their skateboards. They just kept falling and trying and falling and trying. It was so me 10 years ago at the very same place. Made me smile remembering JJ

I was working on a display at work today (Sales rep to a retail store chain), over my head with so much to do and so little time... and from behind me about 30 feet or so I hear "Hi Uncle Paul !!!!!!"
My nephew Joey yelled that all the way down the aisle at the local Home Depot, and everyone looked... and I just smiled... right before I ran up to him and gave him a hug...
Great and wonderful feeling....

Well today I get to leave for Las Vegas, but before I get out of town I get to have a job interview. It sounds promising over the phone, but there are a couple points that could kill the deal, like working hours that conflict with my school. Hopefully we can get it worked out.
Have fun everybody. I return on Sunday, though it may be Monday before I get back to the board.

two things:
1 -- i bought my lab coat today. it's very ... white, and it has a million secret pockets in which i can hide needles for those patients that get "out of hand" and i look frighteningly "professional" in it. i also think i look boring and not like myself/my style at all. my mom got tears in her eyes and said "even wearing it with those ratty-ass skater jeans you look like a real doctor!" and i replied, "except i won't be anywhere near a real doctor, i'll just be doing a portion of their work so that they can walk in, say 'it's this' and walk out." she said, "don't ruin this moment for me!" and i said, "i'm going to be a lab or hospital vampire, ma! VLEH! VLEH!" and i proceeded to hang my index and middle fingers in front of my mouth, ala fangs.
the employees of the "his & her uniform" store probably wanted to fit me for a straight-jacket, instead (and yes, they had those there.)
2 -- i finally dyed my hair, i have been waiting to ever since the red highlights faded out to that nasty gold-blonde color. it is now a nice dark/warm brown. i am going to take pictures on monday before school, ie: when i actually care to put makeup on so i don't look like a walking zombie corpse.
a good day.

I can just picture you in that lab coat, and I too love secret pockets.
I bought a winter jacket last year, it consists of a windproof outer jacket and a fleece liner which can be unzipped, detached at the neck and either sleeve, then turned inside out and made into a sweater. The liner has two pockets in it. The jacket itself has two pockets too on the front, then two more halfway up on either side of the main zipper, then one extra on the left side with an inner pocket inside that one made of mesh with a stretchy top perfect for a cell phone. That pocket also has an opening with a sort of iris thingy made of silicone rubber made for a headphone cord to run through so you can keep all that stuff on the inside where it's neat and tidy. Then there's an inner pocket too which is accessed by unzipping the fleece liner on the right side. It's rather big so you can fit like a book or a magazine in it. Finally, the hood can be detached as well, and there's a ventilation slit on the back, plus drawstrings for tightening it up both around the hem and the chest.
It's a great jacket, I luv it and it wasn't even expensive.
Hugs:
-L
PS: Oh, and there's a tiny skipass pocket too on the left-hand sleeve with a hook inside (for the pass, I guess), that is held closed with velcro.

your coat sounds awesome! i had one KIND OF like that, but not as fancy it seems. i still have it, but it's too big now, but i keep it for when i have to suck it up and wear a coat for warmth and not how it looks, hehe. my mother wants me to buy a "nice winter coat" before winter this year, since my immune system from crohn's is so shotty (or well, the crohn's meds i should say), except i think i am buying The Brian Kinney Leather Jacket instead.

I haven't been up long enough for anything smile worthy to happen, so I'll just tell you what made me smile yesterday.
On Wednesday, the cellos had their chair tests (for anyone who doesn't know, these are worth a *bleep*-load of points and determine where you sit for the rest of the year) and I was the last to take mine. I was SO nervous sitting in my teacher's office like 3 feet away, my hands were freezing and shaking and to top it off the cello I was using kept making a rattling noise so I had to stop in the middle of my scales so she could try to fix it (she couldn't). So, finally, it was over and I went back into the orchestra room whre my friends Vidya and Aalisha asked me how it went, was it hard, etc. Then they asked how I thought I did, "I messed up on my scales my C# and D sounded like... D and D . I don't really know how I did on the rest" I said. So we talked about it for a while and then I kind of forgot about it...
On Friday I was sitting on the floor listening to some people talk (they weren't really talking to me), when Vidya came running through the door. "Oh my God, Jeanne! Congratulations!" And she gave me a hug. I must have frowned at her, or given her a weird look because she said, "You got 1st Chair!" Haha, time stopped. I was like, whaa? I think I said "are you serious?" and "are you sure?" like 5 times while she was talking to me about it. I couldn't stop smiling. Then in orchestra I felt bad because I had beat out people who've been playing for like 6 years (I've been playing for less than 2) and they were mad about it, but it was kind of funny. This one kid, who I think is racist (I'm black, so it kind of matters ), got third chair and was REALLY mad about it. I think I smiled for like an hour straight, Vidya and Aalisha kept making fun of me for it lol.
The only bad things about yesterday were 1) I didn't want 1st chair because I don't have enough experience and there are people who are WAY more eligible 2) All the other cellists are mad and 3) My mom is mad at me (for an unrelated reason, but still it ruined my day)
THE END of Jeanne's good day

That is so awesome !!!! First Chair ?????? Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just remember girl, that you got first chair for a reason. Sometimes we don't really see why until maybe later, but there is a reason nonetheless...
As far as racism... well, just blow that person right off....
You and I are probably as oppositely complected as anyone... (Blonde, Blue, etc..) but my best friend is black, and he and I are like Mutt and Jeff... and I love him so much as a friend.. and not once have I ever thought of our color differences...
I just say that to say not everyone cares about color... and those that do, aren't worth giving your attention and focus to....
So enjoy first chair !!!!! YOU DESERVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAHHHHHH !!!!!

Don't worry about the 'lacking experience' bit. Trust your teacher, she was the one who decided apparantly you DID have what it takes. You just do your thing, as best you can and don't worry about it.
Those others giving you grief for not being picked, they remind me of Cinderella's stepsisters. They should not blame you for their own shortcomings, tell them to just get over it, especially that racist bit-... Hehe, shouldn't say words like that, hehe...on 3rd chair. Black is beautiful.
If that person thinks she's so much better than you, how come you beat her? Probably because our worth and abilities aren't located in the color of our skin.
So you just go ahead and smile with a clear conscience, because you've done something truly great. Be proud of yourself, and like I said, just do your best. So many people take themselves and what they do too seriously, they forget the reason they started doing something is because you like doing it, instead it becomes a competition. So what if you "only" get 3rd chair. Aren't you all in the orchestra there to play MUSIC?
I hope you'll continue to find many reasons to smile. Wish I could be there hearing you play. I love the sound of the chello, it's got such a rich timbre to it... Wow.
Hugs:

Yes, it is awesome, but I think maybe I should have bought an extra large instead of just large. It would have helped if I want to fit a thick sweater inside, now I can't, due to the fact the fleece liner is about sweater size. Oh well, I think it would have been too warm with a thick sweater anyway. And I have another nice jacket I can wear instead of this one if I need something thick underneath. It's made of wool, and it doesn't have as many nice pockets and has to be dry-cleaned, so generally I tend not to wear it.
Hehe, it didn't come with an operator's manual no, but I had a great time discovering all the different pockets and straps and adjustments 'n' stuff... I have quite a long list of criteria a garment has to fulfil before I'm truly satisfied with it. For example, when I buy shoes, the holes the laces run through have to be riveted, not just a hole that is stamped out of the material. If it is, the laces will tear into the material and make the hole oval and look ugly.
Things like that, you know?
If I buy a jacket and it has one of those venting slots on the back, one must not be able to see the insulation if you lift the flap and peek inside. Okay, so you won't see the insulation during normal use, but it's cheap design to make a jacket like that and I don't like it. Naturally, the one I bought fulfils all my stringent demands.
Thanks for the reply Bam.

and criteria is not bad... at least you know what you want and don't have to spend two weeks looking at something before you figure out if it is right or not !!!!! (Maybe you can help Timmy out so he doesn't have to go shopping for such a long time !!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!! Hugs, Timmy !!!!!)

If you go here, don't buy electronics or computer parts or such. Stuff like that is (sometimes way) cheaper in the US.
We generally have better cheese and bread than you do though. Swedish bread used to be very bland and boring. During the last ten years, things picked up considerably in that regard, and now we have a good variety to choose from. I prefer dark bread with lots of fibre, so it fills your stomach when you eat it... Cheese has always been good here. We have several varieties that are wayyy nice. Like Svecia, a variety with small holes, or Wästerbotten (named after a region in the northern part of the country), which tastes VERY strong. If it's a mature cheese, it actually gives you blisters if you eat too much of it. Very tasty, though a bit expensive. We have a nice cheddar too, and a kind with big holes called Grevé, which has this kinda nut-like flavor. I don't like it if it has been matured, it tastes much better in its milder varieties. Usually mild cheeses don't taste much at all, but this one does.
Oh, guess I'm rambling, heh! Sorry about that.
By the way, my new Ultramat mop unfortunately isn't available in the US. I checked the manufacturer's website (www.vileda.com) and it wasn't listed there... If you know German, can find it on that site, though the picture doesn't do it justice.
Take care Bam! Love talking to you.

Lenny, you have Volkswagens, Volvos, Saabs, Cooper Minis, Jaguars, Porsche... just to start naming vehicles.. not to mention French wines, German Chocolate, the Alps for tour and skiing, etc.....
Maybe I am just envious because I am tired of the mentality here that we are the best and brightest and everyone else comes in second...
Part of it is also the envy I suppose of living where things are so different.
I will tell you... I have a Chevy and a VW... one with 120,000 mi (Chevy) and the other with 170,000 (VW).. and guess which one is a much better vehicle and in better shape????? You got it... not the Chevy...

my smile for today:
today was my cousin's son's baptism -- i am now a godmother (or, a "fairly oddparent" like the cartoon says). it was the first time i have set foot in a catholic church in more years than i can remember -- same witih my brother, who is the godfather.
after jesting back and forth talking in brando's "godfather" voice (wait, WAS it brando????) before the services began, it was very hard to keep a straight face. we were *so* out of place there. then it came time for us to go up there and recite credo's that have been ingrained into our brains, regardless of my brother now being a self-proclaimed athiest, and me being what i am.
so then we have to take communion and t. and i being the smart-ass siblings we are, kept murmuring about being struck with lightning or bursting into flames, and my cousin is trying to not laugh. then i had to hold the bowl for the water being poured over the baby's head, and t. (my brother) had to tie this white bib on the baby. and he kept fumbling it, and i whisper "where did you learn to f***ing tie?!" and THE PRIEST HEARD ME, and the three of us, t. my cousin and i, dissolve into giggles and i'm all, "oh my god i'm sorry .. i mean ... oh my gosh, i mean ---" and the priest thankfully had a sense of humor.
afterwards when my mother caught wind of what happened, she lightly slapped me on the face and all but made me step into confession. it was hilarious. i was super-fancy dressed and haven't been in forever, and was very uncomfortable. i had on a black "witchy" skirt (silk overlayed in meshy-flowy-gauzy black stuff, so it was very .. it moved around a lot), and this brown and pink flower blouse with poet-belled sleeves and a v-neck collar. and my hair was curled/spiked and i had full makeup on. and black mary-janes with star-studs on the top.
my cousin's older brother, who is one of my favorite people ever, was wearing cargo pants (black), black chuck taylor shoes, and a dress shirt and tie. it was hilarious. we're surprised t. didn't just show up in hospital scrubs.
it was pretty funny. and now i am a godparent and to me that's more strange than being an actual parent.
my void does not want.
